Zombies Ate My Neighbors revival project

If you've ever owned a SNES or SEGA, chances are you have played or seen the game, Zombies Ate My Neighnors. I was going through it the other day and began to wonder..... Should I remake this with an actual story. Or use it as a base for a horror-type game. I like the fact that they used almost every cliche horror film known to man in this. The game was pretty straight forward. save the people before the monsters get to them. If it would be made to day, what monsters would you put in the game and why?
And what weapons would you use. Remember, this was created that if it happened to you what weapons would you use to fight them?
I'd like to get some feedback on this, so tell me what you think.

I would get the spade or a rake from my shed and whack the monsters in the head. (Shaun of the Dead ).
Or either... Run away screaming for my mother.

But, some games are best left alone, Golden Oldies.
But yeah, it would be awesome to see it in pure 3D or revamped 2D graphics.

I would say, Go for it if you're up for it.
