[XP] [In-Progress] Legends of Feroon [DEMO!]

Legends of Feroon
Pi Squared Productions

Introduction
Introduction

Greetings all, Korij Payne here; to tell you all of my current project, Legends of Feroon.
At the moment I'm currently spending a fair amount of time creating it, but will hopefully pick up the pace even more so I can get it completed even quicker!
Anyway, enough on this, how about I give you some information on the game.

Story
Story

Deep in the foothills in of Feroon stands a thriving metropolis: Murwold. Murwold is home to many different people and cultures, it is also the capital of the entire nation. A small band of renegade thieves scamper about the streets of Murwold searching for anything they can make a quick dollar from. The troupe consists of three good friends: Raegon Darkwater, Irikalum ("Ikim" to his friends) Jonga and Tyron Harglaive. For several years they had no problem pulling off a few, small-rate heists. The band were good, very good in fact, that was until they chose the wrong house to burgle...

Throughout the adventure, our hero, Tyron, discovers his life is destined for more than he ever expected. He comes across many different friends and foes as he learns the truth behind his existence. He learns the dark secrets of the world, what the villainous King himself is plotting for Feroon and how he is to stop it.

Characters
Characters

Tyron Harglaive

Age: 17
Race: Human
Heritage: Eravalian
Class: Thief
Weapon Prof: Daggers, Short Swords and Long Swords.

History: Tyron doesn't remember a whole lot of his childhood. His parents left him at an early age he was left to his grandmother. Falling away from society, Tyron began mixing without many different cultures and races, which makes him a well-rounded communicator throughout the game. During his younger years, Tyron came across another young boy, Raegon, who he began spending a lot of time with, only to be introduced to his future partner in crime; Ikim.

Raegon Darkwater

Age: 17
Race: Human
Heritage: Eravalian
Class: Thief
Weapon Prof: Daggers, Short Swords and Long Swords.

History: Raegon was born and raised in the slums of Murwold, so I think it's fair to say he's a survivor. He never quite grasped the idea of right and wrong and believes that eveything happens for a reason, whether it be good or bad.

Irikalum "Ikim" Jonga

Age: 18
Race: Half-Elf
Heritage: Layderan
Class: Thief
Weapon Prof: Daggers, Short Swords and Long Swords.

History: Ikim was raised by Elves, in their nation of Layderan. His mother was the only parent Ikim ever knew, for his father, a human, left his mother after being alerted of her pregnancy. The only thing Ikim truly wants out of life is to find his father, and make him pay for putting his mother through so much pain.

Capt. Zachary Kayrin

Age: 31
Race: Human
Heritage: Eravalian
Class: Knight
Weapon Prof: Short Swords, Long Swords, Two-Handed Swords and Polearms.

History: Captain Zachary Kayrin, Regiment 4a of the Murwold Guard. He was raised in Southwood until he turned 18 and moved to Murwold to enlist in the Guard. He raised through the ranks quicker than any other soldier, but unfortunately for his personal life, he never could quite 'turn off'. This character may come across as a hard-ass, stick-in-the-mud, but believe me, Zachary has some real fire power behind him.

"My only duty; to protect the monarch, his majesty Kalix II and Princess Silvia from anyone who may cause a disturbance." -- Capt. Kayrin

Counselor Saregan Firebane

Age: 27
Race: Half-Elf
Heritage: Eravalian
Class: N/A
Weapon Prof: All Swords.

History: Counselor Firebane is the King Kalix's right-hand man, but he is not the successor to the throne. That right still stands with Kalix's daughter, and unfortunately Saregan has never quite been able to accept this. Saregan is a brilliant manipulator and a master swordsman, but as for his true intentions... No one quite knows.

Princess Silvia

Age: 17
Race: Human
Heritage: Eravalian
Class: Mage
Weapon Prof: Staffs and Blunt Weapons.

History: Princess Silvia is the only child of King Kalix II, which places her as heir to the throne. Silvia was a very shy child, and still is today. She was never allowed out of the castle grounds, and even today she is restricted to the privacy of Murwold. She had little else to do in her childhood but read books, studying up on whatever she could understand. Now she has developed amazing powers, but not quite sure how to use them...
Silvia isn't sure what's happening to Feroon; but she fears it won't be good.

Kayla Olira

Age: 19
Race: Elf
Heritage: Layderan
Class: Cleric
Weapon Prof: Blunt Weapons.

History: The Olira family is a well respected name throughout all of Layderan, but unfortunately every family has it's 'bad apple'. Kayla Josephine Olira, 'K' as she's been commonly referred to, could never understand why people would want to live such boring lives. Why all these high elves could find pleasure in striding around telling each other how great they are. Kayla often wandered out into the woods searching for a little bit of adventure. One day though, she came across two people who she never thought she would...

Douglass "Gun" McLorzi

Age: 33
Race: Human
Heritage: Eravalian
Class: Monk
Weapon Prof: Hand/Claw.

History: Gun McLorzi, mercenary. Anyone with a bit of shine can get Gun's attention. Brute strength and the power of his fists is the way he rides, and for the right amount of gold, he'll set anyone straight for you. When his local tavern is overrun by the Murowld Guard in search of him, Gun suddenly quakes, but what he doesn't know is--the King, has a deal for him.

Yes! There will be several more characters, I'm jut not quite up to adding them yet!
(I have all the concept ideas, just not 100% yet. I will add when I have more.)

Demo
Demo

Well, at the moment I do have a demo for you, but it's only a very small piece of what I hope to be a really fun and amazing cake. Or... Game... Whatever. Download it, give it a play, and tell me what you think. Any advice, comments or constructive criticism is more than welcome! And anyone interested in helping me (no, I'm not trying to give a segway to recruiting), but anyone perhaps interested in helping should PM me.

There's the demo link ^^^ By the way, please excuse any grammar/punctuation problems, I haven't gone through it with a fine tooth comb yet! Also, if you experience any glitches etc. please post and let me know!

You will also need this to play, chuck it in the AUDIO/BGM folder. (Temporary)

F.A.Q.

Okay, here we go-- someone asked me why most of my characters are thieves and why everyone at this stage is using blade weapons. The answer is, I've only included characters in this post that are currently in my game, if you want I will add the others. I understand why you thought it was weird, I would to, but just to get things straight: Raegon and Ikim leave you during the start of the game. Having all of one class was just sort of a way of me 'getting the player used to the game'. So, don't worry, I am planning to have many different classes and also many different weapons! Oh, and I will also post more character summaries tonight. So keep posted!  -Korij Payne

Well, as for BMG/Scene7 ... Yes... I'm an idiot. I apologize.   Well here, I've uploaded the audio file to my site, so you can simply add it to the audio files if you want. I will upload a new demo containing all the files later tonight as well. I am very sorry for that... Would've ticked a lot fo you off I'm sure.  -Korij Payne
Check the 'Demo' spoiler for a link.

That's why there's an edit button. Use it.
And thats why there's a Report to Moderater button.  Use it.

Anyway, why is it that nearly all of your characters are Thieves?  I dont think you really need that much of one class.  Or at least state their strengths and weknesses in battle.  There really is no need for everyone to be the same thing.  Same skills, Same strengths.  You're making it seem like that.  Also, why are all of your people using blade weapons?  Add some spice in the mix.  Give someone a Bow, or a Axe.  Maybe a Staff?

Played yer dema end therz sum stuff ya needta ficks.

At the beginning, where you inserted (begins running into the darkness), why not just play a looping running sound effect that stops when the player presses ENTER or whatever? Reading their actions made me think I was pencil-and-paper role-playing "/

Where Tyron says "Jeez, lay off my back ok? We're all on the same team, right?" have him instead say "Jeez, get off my back, okay? We're all on the same team, right?"

Afterwards, Ikim says "Come on then--before we get heard--..." Change that to "--before we're overheard--" And try to make his next sentence about the pipes sort of not obvious. Like, have Ikim find something in the pipes, and THEN have him tell you to check the pipes because you never know what you might come across. Also I don't like the fact that people flush gold down their toilets. Then again, I don't understand the concept of animals and dropping gold/items/weapons in RPGs, either.

When you fight the soldier, rather than having him walk away and sob in the corner, use the downed soldier sprite instead. Is there even a downed soldier sprite? And when Raegon closes the door, put in a sound effect. I also noticed that there's no choice but to walk painfully slow throughout the sewers, even with a sense of urgency with your friends being in danger. Why is this? And another grammar mistake is when Tyron finds Ikim, Tyron says "Ikim we have to get out of here--the Murwold Guard now we here!" to which Ikim replies "No way man! The house is right about us!"

I find it very difficult as to why there is a sewer accessible directly underneath this man's house, and how anyone can simply wander right in through the staircase [which was stone in the sewers and is suddenly wooden]. And, are they supposed to have horrible grammar because they're peasants? That would make sense, as most peasants are uneducated, so if that's not just you being lazy, then okay.

Also, where Tyron says shit after the guards surround him and Ikim in the house, you might want to make sure to put up some kind of warning for any kids who play this.

Where you use the message box to simulate Ikim placing his hands behind his head and bowing to the guards, I'd recommend putting that in a transparent message box and set it in the middle of the screen.

"Another victory for the Murwold Guard! Huzzah!" <----LOL@Huzzah

Whoever walks in afterwards also has a grammatical error in their message box; "What this?" should be "What's this?" and the Captain says "These felons where planning to rob you!"
(where=were)

Another message box mishap follows where Counsellor Saregan stares at Tyron without a transparent, centered message box. I also don't understand what happens next, either; Saregan decides to free Tyron, who attacked a ROYAL GUARD just minutes prior, yet the other two (children, might I add) were to blame? And I highly doubt that three children would be able to overtake 4 guards (even though there were tons more than that). Also, that ass-woopin' handed out by Saregan was very predictable, but that might just be me.

Then there's a long, silent, black screen at the end? I would've expected a better ending than this... "/ Even for a demo.

Basically, fix all of the grammatical errors and the things that don't make sense, and this might be a good game (RTP and all :x )
