No doubt it's just a picture you look at and go "Vroom-vroom";)

That is definately NOT a picture, I just dl'd it, played it through and completed it. One thing to say about it: IT OWNS! Only thing they need is to not have the plasma (Strange sand-timer ammo) respawn, I had 999 of it! also they need to get a more fancier hud and see how much they can push it towards 100kb, for 96kb it freaking owns, how the blazes did they do it!

Yeah this is pretty damn old. It was a bet among some random guys to see who could compress textures enough to keep the game as small as possible. The game is pretty much completely barebones with the absolute MINIMUM of coding, and thus has a lot of compatability issues (My guess at least, since I couldn't get it to work, and I've heard of a lot of others who couldn't either). Still quite a damn accomplishment, though I'm thinking this was abandoned or something since it really was like a year ago that I heard the guys who made this were going for 32k next. Maybe they're just still doing it.

EDIT: Also does the name and link not totally look like a virus?

The guy/guys who made this usually hangs out at Gamingw and he's been posting some screens of a new version. He actually doesn't use compression. Instead, the game uses procedural generation. Basically, the textures you see are saved via their histories so what you see onscreen is only created when it's needed and only then.

Basically, the game builds itself from scratch as you play via being created entirely from the get-go. Unreal Tournament 2k4 uses the same method. He said if he didn't use this, the one level game would have been about 300mb.

And yea, this is pretty old.

April 2004?

Yea.

procedural generation. Thats how they are making the game Spore.
It essentially is 100% "10001010110010011" type coding, and not "data". Thats how they keep it small.
I believe that is how they used to make games...
I could be wrong though. ;)

I woudn´t ask for a way to open if i haven´t tried the obvious... And indeed...
