World map

I was just wondering what a decent sized world map would be, because I had tried making one once a while ago but people always said there the map was to large and that I should scale it down a bit but when I did that they would say that I made it to small.  It never seemed right so anyhelp would be great.

Um well it depends on what kind you want first of all.  In my game, there are no encounters or anything and everything is pretty close together.

If you want one like that...maybe 100 x 100?  I dunno.  But if you want one more like Final Fantasy games where the world map is a crucial part of the game, as opposed to just being a means of going from one place to the next, probably bigger than that...like 150 x 150.

Those width x height measurements are just arbitrary numbers I made up lol...I dunno just experiment.

It really depends on what you are going to put in it. If you are going to fill it with a lot of stuff and want the player to play the game on mostly one map, then make it fairly big. If you don't want the player to have to spend the whole time playing the game on one map, then make several small one that make up one big map. A good small outside map varies between probably 50X50 to 75X75. A good fairly large map varies between 100X100 to 150X150. But you know, that is just my opinion. Make a map that fits how you want to players to play.
