Woohoo, pixels.

My current avatar is rather mediocre, so I'm making a new one!!!! WIP, obviously, but critique on what I have would be fantastic. The shading on the cheek is really bothering me, and I just can't seem to get it right.

I didn't see the reference picture at first and I thought you were doing a cyberpunk Super Saiyan :O

I think you should adjust the jawline a little bit, maybe make it a little smoother because as of right now it's very masculine. The upper lip's protruding a bit much, also.

You should also consider using a different palette for the skin tone, as the one you're using is a little tanned, unless that's what you're going for.

Keep going though :O I want to see the rest

God, you're not the first person who's said it looks like a Super Saiyan. :x :x Maybe I should make the hair not blonde in the final version! I just thought it was neat and wanted to practice pixeling hair.

You're right that the jaw is very masculine, but idk, I like drawing chicks with masculine jawlines or something. But yeah, it does look sort of weird; I'll round it out. And I'll adjust the lip too. Thanks!

And yeah, the skintone isn't supposed to be white. I went with it because I like the color, so I'm gonna call her Native American or something; I kinda like the inversion of the stereotype. Probably going to play with the color some more, actually.

Okay, I adjusted the shape of the face, and it looks tons more feminine now.

Cheek highlights are still bothering me, and I didn't get a chance to mess with the palette. I have to go, though, so it'll have to wait!

Hmm, it looks like the eye is too high since I moved the nose down, but oh well, I'll play with it tomorrow.

Changed the shading on the face again and tweaked the palette. I think it looks better now, but not perfect, and I'm still not really satisfied with the colors. Any suggestions? I wanted the front to be lit with a kind of bluish light but couldn't get the colors right. Also, that's supposed to be an earring, but it looks more like a microphone or something. I'll mess with it later.

Well she looks like an indian, so I'm gonna say a feather. Nice work Peri, it will be interesting to see you tackle that much hair!

Yes, it's a she, and it's a feather. And yeah, god is it ever a lot of hair. I'm actually cutting it down, but it's still going to take me forever!

OK. I just hope you don't go into an anime shaded hair. Keeping it at a realistic level, but not too much, would be quite tricky. Good luck, I hope I can help later down the track.

Yeah, I definitely don't do anime. No worries on that front. :3

As long as I'm here, here's the latest version, although I didn't do much but downsize and recolor the hair.

Wow! your latest compared to the oldest... it's like a Male have Sex Changed to Female, lol! nice improvement! ^^ anyway, is it just me? or the thing in her head looks more of a cap than a feather, maybe just me, since your aren't even done with it! ^^

By the way, where are you using it? just curious... ^^

I know, it really is a huge difference, haha. I noticed that too. And yeah, I'm thinking about moving it elsewhere since I don't think I really like the positioning there.

I'm thinking about using it for an avatar, but idk, practice mainly.

Yeah, maybe moving the feather a little bit in the ear might prove it really is a feather, I hope to see the final result. ^^ I'm just interested in face pixels or facesets, that's all! ^^

I'm still not really comfortable with the skintone vs. the hair, those two colors to me just don't really feel natural. Even if it is supposed to be Native American, the palette is a little too ruddy and gives off a sunburnt/airbrushed impression rather than a outdoors color.

Here is an example from Suikoden III, Lucia:

I'm assuming that Grasslands people are supposed to be Indian, but regardless, she's an example of blonde hair vs. darker skin tone. A real life example would be Keyshia Cole:

I dunno, I guess. I think maybe I might be making too hasty of a conclusion since you haven't done any shading on the hair yet, but the skintone I think is what really jumps out at me.

Man, I never realize what a big difference palette swaps make until I do them. I think it might be a bit too gold now, though. Thoughts? (Edit: Looks better since I adjusted some of the dark tones to have more blue. Still, input is appreciated.)

I also made a few other edits on the advice of the lovely and talented Venetia.

Started on the hair! God, it takes so long. That little part took me at least an hour. @_@ Comments so far? The one curly bit on the top looks like a teddy bear ear or something silly like that, but hopefully it'll look better when there's more hair, and if not, I'll change it. Also, the feather went away because it looked weird where I had it. I'll probably redraw it elsewhere, but idk, we'll see how it goes.

Okay, this is going on hold for about a week because I need to not fail out of college. Also, please forward all of your modly issues to Grathea or Regi during that time, because I won't be around .org much!
