WIP Side View Magician

I'm not sure why his hair sparkles like that. Also, he doesn't seem to be moving his hand at all, yet the staff shakes.

You might want to work on smoother lineart; some parts of the robe are rather jagged. Also work on shading, it feels like the sleeves are more round and spheroid than they really are. Perhaps move the highlights higher?

more about the shading: you're using a lot more colours than you need and laying them down in simple gradient patterns. the result is that your wizard looks more like a quilted pattern than an actual person. with more contrast between your base shade and your highlight and shadow shades, and a bit more thought to how light and shadow would look on your wizard, your sprite will be a lot cleaner and more detailed.

I'll second regi's comments about the lineart, as well. it's not a bad start, though. don't get discouraged!

I guess one thing you are doing is pillow shading. What you need is a light-source. Shading in the exact middle with multiple colors makes the art look plat and 2-dimensional.

I would also check his color tutorial as well.

Here is another tutorial: http://www.natomic.com/hosted/marks/mpat/

Also, the hair animated looks odd. It isn't moving, only the highlights are.

One more thing, the animation is quite static. There is no movement in the robe or anything else. I t looks like he is sliding, not walking or running. I suggest making the movement more dynamic. Have him cast his wand in the air or do something.

Like mawk said, dont be discouraged, its a decent start. o;

Please check the first post again I changed up the guy a little bit, shaded him differently, and changed his weapon a bit.

Im not so sure i like how much movement it has now that i see him moving... especially the bottom and the hand on the right side.

@bacon - Thank you very much, that first link to the tutorial you have there is very good, Bookmarked!

anyway, tell me what you think of him now, what should i do to fix him more.
