Hello one-and-all,
My name is Joshua and I am back into RPG maker-mode after about six years off the hook. It makes me feel old, but I started a loooooonnnnnngggggg time ago back in the days of RPG 95... those where fun....(not).
Anyways, I recently decided to try and start up a game again but, my oh my, is it ever hard to find good resources and/or communities! "Back in my day" it was so much more... everywhere. I'm glad I found this place though, so I hope I can call it home (also any resources you could float my way that'd fit this project would be great).
Enough introduction/begging, time to get to the point! This game is a Work In Progress and as such I hope you will all be kind, again I am rusty from six years!.
Title:
Samuel
Concept:
Sam is in a difficult situation. Having recently lost his most loved companion he is plagued by dreams, visions and nightmares. Having been the cause of her death has caused him to become unstable, to the point of seeing her wherever he goes. Sam lives a mostly solitary life, only leaving his house when needs demand, and wants nothing more than to be left alone. Sadly his wishes are not met and as the story progresses he uncovers various lies, scandals, and worst of all... the truth.

---*Lockpick skill system
This system is a simple event-based system. The player will gain varying skill levels of "lockpick" and be able to attempt to unlock certain objects with varying percentage rates. Locks -can- be broken and as such would need a lock repair kit from a local shop.
STATUS: early stages, attempting to make the variables & switches neat and tidy.

Being that the nature of the game is, well, dealing with one man's depression over the loss of a loved one it only seemed natural to have this system. The ideal outcome for this system would be that, if the player becomes depressed enough, Sam will be afflicted with status effects (less health, str, dex, etc.). There would be ways to coping with depression (sleeping, triggering memories, completing quests). If Sam's "depression bar" reaches it's maximum it would trigger an end-game scenario. (not suicide)
STATUS: I've now clue how to go about including this system into the game, so any help would be appreciated.

This is going to be a big undertaking, so any help finding a good quest system would be appreciated. Basically there will be an abundance of quests to do and depending on the quest at hand the results could change other game-events/quests.
STATUS: Again, no idea how to implement this (well, I kind-of do, but it involves a long process of events and code. If there is a simple, but still effective way let me know)

Like the feature above this is a big undertaking. It means spending copious amounts of time on each map (adding all the events, the triggers, the items, the text, etc.). It's not really that big of a deal for me to do and it's going well. I'm simply using a combination of conditional branches and switches to determine if the player has searched and gotten something (if something is to be gotten) or not.
