WIP, First Sprite Ever

So, I randomly decided today that I should try my hand in spriting, so.... I got a half kaizer template and a piece of concept art from my game and came up with this. I'm new to spriting, as I said, this is the first time I've ever really tried to do any pixel art, so suggestions and tips are welcomed.

It's looking kinda pillow shaded, but it isn't bad man...

I think its a very good start especially for your first sprite. The colors are extremely dark, and much of the detail gets lost in it. I suggest lighting them up a bit and maybe changing a few to match the reds you have in the concept art. the only portion thats noticeably pillow shaded are the upper legs, so its the only part you really need to fix.
