[WIP] FF9 Vivi

After reading the replies to my Mysterious 01 someone badmonur mentioned it reminded them of Vivi...so I decided to make an edit of my edit and make Vivi.
Just finished the first cell of the first row and would like some feedback please! :D

ouch, please lose the darkoutlines. make the colours a little less desaturated. and are the boots square? :s

EDIT: you should really work on the hat

Yeah it's my first attempt at a full edit rather than a recolour with minor changes so I'm sure I'll need a few pointers.

here's a little help..
first lose the black outlines, colours are your friend. NEVER EVER use black outlines to sprite rtp sprites
after that try to make the character less angular. ''mind the hat and the boots.
and when it comes to shading,, well I haven't really changed that, but remind that the light source comes from the left top corner when you are spriting rtp sprites.

if you listen to green raven's advice I think this will come along nicely. I like it already. Its the first sprite that actually looks like vivi, as far as I have seen.

You might also want to bring the height down by a few pixels. Isn't Vivi short? But it's a great start.

Wow thanks for the feedback and the tips on spriting are greatly appreciated :D
I think it looks a bit more like the black mages from black mage village, just in Vivi's clothes so I'll either finish it as is and create a shorter variation or just change it completely.

Vivi is a person? I thought he was some sort of monster thing. Of course I've only seen him in KH2 lol


I kinda like the black outlines in this picture. It would be good for original sprite but the one with out the black looks better.

Top row almost finished, just need to finish the arms swaying.

That's the way it was in FF9. Love love that game. *mwah* I would accept that as an adult Vivi Who's to say he never grew up?

Yeah I checked another picture and there actually white and turquoise striped.

Yeah the size has already been mentioned so it is being described as an 'Adult Vivi'.
I'll probably use a child template and make a 'Child Vivi' once I have finished this.

Just saw this.. wow... but here's my thing... I was checking a picture of vivi online... hi hat is about 33% of his overall height... it's a freaking huge hat.

Here, look at this.
