I was making a small flying book character, and I thought I should get some critique before I use it.

I'll be direct; could be nice for RPG Maker 95 but it's overpassed for XP. The style is completly different, the shading is .. not present at all and it's a bit too small to be detailled!

Actually I think the size works fine for XP. It's about in scale with the standard RTP characters. I do agree it can use some shading though. Right now the colors are very flat. I'm not sure the side view works completely either. The angle doesn't feel right - it doesn't match up with the front and back angles. Also, when the book cover is at the apex of it's upward motion, you should be able to see a few pages showing underneath. The way you have these colored, those pages aren't evident in the side view.

You should really rethink the shading.

Straight gradients were fine for 200x but are not so good these days.
