Wing's Rebellion [More story revealed] [Looking for team]

Story

Setting

The setting of this world is our Earth, in a distant future. Every one of the 7 nations of the world is somewhat isolated from the next, due to strange events about 700 years prior to the game's start. The catastrophe completely reshaped the Earth, and dramatically reduced it's land masses. Due to the isolation, advancements in technology vary greatly between each country, as do lifestyles. Strangely, the population of the world is quite low, a small fraction of our current population.

Our story starts in Arcia, a larger nation with a growing interest in imperialism. By our standards today, Arcia is a few hundred years behind us in technological advancements. Weapons used in this region include swords, bows, spears, knifes, and primitive guns. Most living in this region have limited knowledge of the outside world unless they are of nobility. As the game progresses, the player will learn more about the other nations of the world, and the leaders that control them.

Expect each nation to vary greatly. One may grasp technology greater than our own today, while another may be compared to a civilization hundreds of years in the past.

Introduction

Seraph picked up the unconscious boy and rested him against a large tree. He looked into the still, pale eyes, and watched the life withdraw from them. Resting a hand on the boys chest, Seraph began to channel his life force into the body. A pulse returned, and shallow breaths emerged. The boy had been resurrected.

Had he given life to this boy? Seraph was brought fame in his country for his skill in swordsmanship, and knowledge of war- but giving life? It didn't matter now. He brought the kid back to his brother, upon a painful request. In the following weeks, Seraph had disappeared from the rest of the world, and he saw to it that this 16 year old boy, Hayden, made a full recovery. He soon took on an unexplainable fascination to Hayden and his brother Rajhin, and would constantly leave his military post to train them in secret. Over one year the two became excellent swordsmen, under the teachings of the greatest warrior in Arcian history.

The time soon came, after months of growing weaker, that he would die. On the night of his final breath, he visited his pupils one last time, and recited a vague dream. God had spoken revelations to him in a dream, and given him a task to pass on to the boys...

Under his final request, the boys would wait for two years, and then set off for a pilgrimage across the ocean. He left that night, to be betrayed by a fellow general in the military.

The game starts two years after Seraph's death, and revolves around the pilgrimage. The player will live the fear, excitement, and confusion felt by Hayden and Rajhin upon leaving their homeland.

Character Description:

Hayden is a young swordsman who lives the life of a vagrant with his elder brother, Rajhin. His feelings are constantly evolving, and a long line of tragic events has brought him through hell and back. Hayden was born with a very fragile body; an unknown illness. At the age of 15 he was fatally wounded and left to die by a group of soldiers, but the famous Arcian warrior, Seraph, revived him. Seraph proposed a new path for Hayden, offering to secretly train him and Rajhin in swordsmanship.
Hayden frequently takes opportunities to be alone and sort out his thoughts. He is both a friend, and a lone wolf at the same time.

Class: Swordsman
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Birthplace: Arcia
Eyes: Brown
Weapon: Katana

Character Description:

Rajhin is the elder brother of Hayden, and an exceptional swordsman. Under the training of Seraph, he becomes the stronger of the two brothers, due to the frail state of Hayden's body. Though he is sometimes cold to his younger brother, he somewhat understands Hayden's requests to be alone. Rajhin has always had better luck than Hayden, and despite his lack of tragic experiences, he still has a colder outlook on life than his brother. Rajhin has no problem killing any enemy that gets in his way.

Other character bio's will be available at a later time. I have kept descriptions short, as not to give away too much away.

These are a few examples of the title system I have come up with for my game. There are multiple different (very detailed) title maps that are randomly selected when the game is booted. It may be day or night, and various weather effects may take place on the screen, all selected randomly. Events will also appear based on the time of day and weather effects.

Yes, Hayden was a naked sprite before Scooby Snack Six came along.

Like I said before, I'm in need of team members with the skills listed above.

I'm especially (at the moment) looking for some nice character pictures for important dialog scenes. Probably just for main characters, but a few others might be needed. I'd like it to have a clean anime style to it, not too over-exaggerated though...

If you're interested in drawing some, I can give you some detailed physical descriptions of characters.
 
Vanguard this looks very impressive. Although I don't exactly get what the story is yet, it would appear you have some good writing skills. It also appear that you are quite a good mapper. Nice work. Plus, by the sounds of it, there's nothing you can't do :P

Good luck, I really hope this game makes it to a demo at leat.
 
Thank you. I'm glad I've made a good first impression on someone.

In all truth, I don't expect anyone to understand the story just yet. I'd much rather have them find out through playing the game- which will run through at least three episodes (episode one being a demo of sorts...).

tbh, i dont get where the story is going. That's probably my fault, for being a lazy reader though. i read it though, and your writing seems to hae more skill/whatever to it than most story outlines i've read. is it gonna be a kind of religious thing or what??

As I said in my last post, I don't exactly want to explain the storyline in this thread. I will tell you that the "task" handed down by Seraph to his pupils is a pilgrimage of sorts, but will lead in to something much bigger. It has a bit of religious reference to it, but it doesn't take knowledge of Christianity to understand. Thanks for the compliment on my writing.

hello there my friend. I do like the screens alot :D

but I have a couple of problems... The tilesets will clash with the charsets. I dont know what you are going to do about that. Also I would look for a 8 frame sprite for something that big.

PM me and I can explain more what I mean without spamming your topic :)

I've never been good with story overviews. It's too easy to reveal way more than you want to, so I keep it as basic as possible.
 
Well, read through it, what I see makes it seem a collection of some the most overused elements in RPG-history I could name them but I think you're aware of what I meant. I realise kicking off a story is hard, but it is the first thing you'll show to your audience. A start like this, without being really into the game, would turn me off. If it's "going to be a lot better", I'd like to see some of the "a lot better-part".
 
Story is interesting and the mapping isn't half bad. Also Vanguard, stick with YOUR story don't let people push you into changing it. Also the charsets do clash a little but it's hardly noticeable. Also, what template is that? Now, Seraph IS Seraphim, right? The Seraphim are hardly peace loving according to the first testament.
 
Thanks malick. I'm sticking to my story, but I'm going to compromise a bit and reveal a bit more about the world this game revolves around.

The template actually started as the "Gyme" template. I then edited it a bit, and then Scooby Snack Six edited it to fit a little better with the tileset. I'm liking what its at now.

As for Seraph, more about his story will be revealed through the game. All I'll say is that the game revolves around religion quite a bit, but in a much different way than anything I've seen in an RPG.
