Windows Vista

So what do you think of vista? Love it? Like it? Don't mind it? Hate it? Personally I love it and I just don't understand why others hate it. Post your thoughts on it and why you love/hate it. (And if you are a mac person don't even bother lol)

Vista is a love/hate relationship. I love some aspects of it, but they make some of the most simplest things they had in XP, and turn them into a complete pain in the ass. I used to have my quicklaunch bar hidden along the top of my desktop. In Vista, you can't just simply drag/drop it like in XP.. you have to right click, make new folder, name the folder, then drag new icons you want into the folder. Wtf? How is that simpler? Also, I'm an administrator, the only username on my computer, yet I don't have "permission" to do hardly anything. You have to give yourself permission to do most things (not talking about UAC.. that's a whole different ballgame). Then, they change the names of other things ("add/remove programs" is now "programs and features") wtf? How are you supposed to find that shit when you used ALL the other windows prior to Vista? Some of the decisions they made for Vista were very poor. I just don't understand how people can "upgrade" something, and remove other aspects to previous versions in the process. It just makes no sense to me.

I agree with all what psiclone said. I love the layout of Vista and how pretty it looks, but the fact that most of the stuff in it has become more painful to do makes it irritating. Vista is also much larger than XP, which means that it takes REALLY long to start up. >.<

I've yet to encounter any of the problems other people get (including startup times) but did have a lot of problems on XP. Therefore, Vista all the way baby.

Actually, Windows Vista is pretty cool, once you get the tricks around it, first thing is to active the hidden admin acount in your pc, that way, Forget UAC and all the permissions, you can do anything just like old WinXP. Mind that, Windows 7even Kicks ass. :P

Exactly. It's like XP, but cooler, and in some ways easier to navigate. Those are my personal reasons for loving Vista.

I hated vista on my old laptop, now im an apple guy so yeah, Apple leopard for the win!

macfags, this is a conversation comparing XP/Vista, not Windows/Apple.

Anyway, XP had a lot of things going for it. The theming was actually easier and better, it was easier to fuck with and customise. It was a lot faster, though they've fixed that in 7.

Windows Vista was the operating system that Microsoft didn't put any heart or soul into. Their love for making a quality operating system was overshadowed by their attempts to make something that looks as good as the macs new, 'updated' graphics (compare it to Cheetah). There wasn't a lot of new features or functionality adding, and they didn't really review what users wanted. If they listened to feedback and added things that everyone was for, then it'd make the operating system so much better. They've improved things a little in 7, but the only problem is that the theme is pretty much exactly the same as vista with a different start bar.

Breadcrumbs, yeah, pretty awesome, very functional.

They're still making mistakes. Their addition of 'Libraries' is not only the most useless thing ever created, it's so bloody confusing to get to your 'Username' folder.

Well this was Microsoft's way of copying Root Administrator system in Linux. Personally I really liked UAC when I first saw it (I said: "wow great protection against viruses and stuff") but then it became plain annoying so I turned it off. In Windows 7 UAC is a little better you can set the way it will ask you so you can set it from rare to total naggy. XD

Also if you are having problems with permissions on Vista just search "Take Ownership Vista" in google. :)

I've never really had a problem with Vista at all, and I've never heard an actual example of its awfulness that doesn't sound like a one-off fluke or a thing where the user should have known better.

the OS used to take up a hell of a lot of HD space compared with other OSes, yeah, but that was fixed. the compatibility is testy in some cases, but really it has to be expected when you're dealing with programs for an OS two or three generations back, and most contemporary stuff works fine. all of my problems with my computer have been hardware stuff; lame soundcard, weak wireless adapter, etc. a lot of complaints about Vista (and OSes in general) just seem to me like the dude in question expects everything to work the same as in the old OS, and is too lazy to adapt.

as for Windows 7, I'll upgrade eventually, but probably not until the thing's been on the market for a while.

also I've never really had a problem with UAC. it's one or two extra clicks, and I don't run into them that often.

but the only problem is that the theme is pretty much exactly the same as vista with a different start bar.
this is a lovely car, good horsepower and fuel efficiency. the only problem is that the paint job is a colour I don't like.

Get Stardock Object Desktop and change the paint job whenever you like

I don't like vista because it requires more RAM where as other windows OS can give speed in low RAM also. There are many programmings can not work properly in vista that I seen. There are not more difference between XP and Vista,Just layout and look is changed.
