Windows Vista Sucks?

Everything I've heard or read about the new Windows Vista OS is ALL bad. So, why are people buying it? But, is it that people are actually interested, buying it, then finding out that it doesn't work, or is it being forced on people wanting to buy a new computer? Everywhere you go to buy a new PC, even non-bestbuy private computer stores, have Vista pre-loaded on them. They take the PC home and find out that their printers, scanners, and other high end periferals DON"T WORK. Why? Why all the hype over an OS that clearly doesn't work as avertised? And why does Microsoft get away with it???

Why do I think Windows Vista Sucks? Is it a customers dream? Is it unreasonable and deceiving advertising by Microsoft? Read on and you decide for yourself.

So you finally get your Microsoft Partner Program's Windows Vista Business Edition disc in the mail the same day as its official release. You notice that instead of the three (3) licenses you got last year for Microsoft Windows XP Professional, this time you only got one! This means Microsoft must think the other two computers need to keep running Windows Office XP?

Aghh forget it, your so happy you can have at least one PC running Windows Vista, nothing else matters. So far so good. You put in the Windows Vista disc to do an upgrade because like me, you don't want to do major computer surgery like the Apple commercials claim!

So far so good. Your thinking, all this stuff I am hearing about how Windows Vista Sucks is all hype from Linux guys and Apple whimps. The disc is running, your hear the hard drive spinning. You see the message, no compatability problems detected to do a Windows Vista Upgrade. You begin the install.

You notice that the install takes about 4 hours and it is keeping you from working on your personal injury cases and other civil litigation matters. You figure, ok, so I lose $1,200.00 in billable hours, but I get Bill Gates' blessing with the New Vista from Windows in my PC.

You see the PC is restarting. But wait! Oh no. There is an error message. Windows has detected a corrupted file and other incompatability problems preventing Windows Vista Upgrade. But didn't it already run a scan and say there were no compatability problems? This would probably piss you off enough to write a blog. Wouldn't it?

In all events, you just waited about an hour for your Dell Pentium D dual core processor to rollback. You notice you can't receive faxes on your Brother PC fax anymore and are losing valuable information from clients and insurance adjustors. What the Hell?

So you call Windows and speak to Pallavi in India. A nice girl and she speaks o.k. English. Of course this is after getting transferred several times by some Indian dude who does not speak very good English who keeps sending you back to the same switchboard. TEMPERATURES RISING!

So Pallavi calms you down and says she "understands" (now you feel like your in line at the DMV being patronized by a lazy government worker) needs you to go to go online the Windows Vista Upgrade advisor. Of course that does not work either, so after wasting about an hour on the phone to India, she says she'll have to get back with you later.

Later on that night, you see the Upgrade advisor works and you run it. It too says no compatability problems with Microsoft Windows Vista Upgrade. So you try and install it again . . . and Guess what, this time you get the blue screen of death!! Now you are bona fide pissed off!

You speak with Pallavi at Microsoft India the next day and she does an online microsoft support center program and takes control of your PC. She says you need to stay on the phone with her. So after about six (6) hours, you say, "hey I have a job and need to work and I am losing money" Her response is "Don't worry Microsoft is not charging you" You are like, "are you joking?" "Microsoft should be paying me. They obviously released the Vista Program way too early!" She laughs. She removes a few programs and has you restart. When it restarts, you can't do a live session again, so you need to rollback again, which takes about 40 minutes.

Finally, you have to go and you agree to work with Microsoft support tomorrow. Another wasted day with Microsoft Support Center. $4,800.00 in lost billable hours. You can't sleep, thinking about all the calls and faxes you missed!!

You get a call at like 7:00 a.m. - exhausted - the next day from Pallavi at Microsoft Support in India and repeat the same exact process. Finaly, she trys to blame your computer and says we need to run a virus scan. No viruses detected. A few registry problems were detected. She says that was probably it but she needs to go. So you try running the install again. Same problem. Windows has detected compatability problems . . . again. But I thought it was those registry problems on my Dell? Guess not?

You lost another day of work. You are completely livid! You lost thousands of dollars in time and now your fax doesn't even work.

So the next day, you do it all over again. This time you speak with a guy at Microsoft support. He also does a live session and looks at all your PANTHER files. He said Vista Upgrade will work NOW!!

So you run Windows Vista upgrade again, only to discover . . . Yes you guessed it . . . Windows Vista sucks. Now the guy in India says you really need to do a fresh install. You are like, is Bill Gates gonna pay? The guy in India laughs. Conclusion Windows Vista sucks!!

Some movies to back me up:

False Vista instalation takes 40 min
i have installed it alot
some people tries to install it on non vista capable comps so the risk of not working are higher
and for tablet pc users its a must trust me
drivers arent fully out yet its normal wait for them

Yeah I watched that little video and while Vista did take quite a few nods from the Mac OSX, it's pretty obvious the video's tailored by Mr. You-must-own-a-mac and says to me that that's all that was taken from the OSX anyways. Not to mention every function stated in that video seemed absolutely useless to me in every way imaginable. Oh boy, I can have a slideshow of pictures and videos? Oh wait, I never used slideshows in the first place, and i generally don't watch videos and think 'this could really use some pictures spliced in' or vice versa. And searching my start menu? Oh boy, because it's obvious that computer users don't have the mental capacity to remember what they've installed, and maybe be able to look through an alphabetical list (or a list they could've ordered themselves) and find what they're looking for.

But yeah. To sum up: have a funny picture!

I'll upgrade to Vista in four years when DX9 is no longer supported by game companies who aren't complete fucking idiots. Or maybe I'll get an iMac when Leopard comes out since most games are stupid and Windows is inferior as an audio development platform.

I have Vista, and I want to cry. (it was on my computer pre-made)

1. Not compatible wit almost anything! New mmorp come out? Wanna download? Don't try it. For the first time, I felt like a Macintosh when no downloadable games or software were compatible with me.

2. Looks shiny? Exsessive lag, takes more than 80 MB of Ram for those nice little graphics. 60 MB of memory? Vista starts off, when you first get your computer, with 40 remaining, and already uses up 7Megs of my restore memory.

3. Looks nice? That's the kicker. those looks are causing lag in every aspect of my life. At one point in time, I changed the theme to windows 98, and it sped up like crazy (guess where I'm at now?)

I hate vista, and I'm too afriad to uninstall it, seeing how there are threats about it erasing memory on uninstallation.

I don't really have anything on there to install yet, though, except an semi-uncompatible RMXP.

This reminds me of windows 98 crashing in front of a live audience.

Khengi, please don't doublepost -.-

@Topic: I've seen Vista in action when a friend of mine bought it. There weren't any problems, anything worked he tried to install, fast installation, good handling, great everything, ... that's why I think most people that can't stand Vista just don't have a clue on how to use it, but because I don't have the OS myself and tried it, I can't point to that... well, I don't think there are different versions of WV, so it must be the crowd, or not?

Sidenote: Hm... on the other hand: There are different versions, 32bit and 64bit... my friend got the 64bit version, might there be a significantly hardware difference that causes above-stated problems to occur on 32bitters?

I don't own Vista myself, as I'm completely broke, but I have installed it on my neighbours computer (I'm regarded as the "computer expert".)

First, the installation took a little under an hour. Not 4 hours. When comparing that to the 6-and-a-half hours it took me to reinstall Windows XP last month, I'd say it's an improvement. There were no errors during installation, and it started up fine.

The start up was a little slower than it is on my XP, but once it was started up, there was no noticable lag. We tried installing a bunch of his games, and lo-and-behold, only one of the older ones didn't work. I can't say for sure that he hasn't found things that aren't compatable since then, but the ones we tried worked fine.

Vista hasn't given me any trouble yet, and some of the features are quite welcome. The interface is better, despite being more Mac OS X like. You can turn all the shiny crap off, and it reliably runs every one of my programs, so I like it fine. I feel like I'm taking a huge step backwards when I use XP now. Like Arc said, it's not that Vista is bad, it's that it's different.
When you turn off that overbearing security system that begs your permission when you try to do ANYTHING, Vista becomes a smooth ride. The only game related trouble I've had with Vista so far is that my Saitek P880 pad doesn't work with Rayman 3 at all, and the Saitek Magic Bus Drivers haven't been made for Vista yet. 3DS Max 9 is technically not Vista compatible, but I've been using it with no troubles. I guess I'm not technical enough to realize Vista sucks when I'm having no trouble using it? I dunno.

Vista came on my new laptop. My printer doesn't work with it. My scanner doesn't work with it. My wacom tablet took 4 hours to get to work with it, and a lot of booting in Homer mode (booting + saying "pleasepleasepleaseplease" really fast under your breath). My webcam only works some of the time. In fact, the only peripheral that worked properly on the first connect was my iPod.

I'm installing XP next week.

I find the difference of 32-bit and 64-bit to be quite pointless. 64-bit is less compatible with most applications, but supports up 128GB RAM. 32-bit supports up to 4GB RAM. How much ram does your friend have, and what's his CPU speed? That could be the answer.

It really does look like the mac OSX. The glossy look really resembles that of it's rival, and I think that's where all of it's criticism comes from. I personally just prefer XP. A new system is great, but even after extensive testing they still didn't get it to work properly. I wouldn't bother with it. But, to each his own.

I can't wait, I have papers due. Long before April or whenever HP deigns to finally release a compatible driver. *rolleyes* I shouldn't have to pay to not have anything fucking work. I can get that for free.

Ha.. from what ive heard i only have one question..

"Does any new computer come WITHOUT vista?"

Or do i have to go out and make my own?
..or does anyone want to convince me otherwise? cause right now where i stand is.. Vista sucks.
