Where to begin?

Hi,  I'm brand new to the site and the program and would like to know where to begin. Didn't really know what forum to post this in, so I just stuck it here.

Basically, I would like to download(and learn how to incorporate them into my game)some new templates and sprites. I also saw in another forum something called "battlers". I am assuming they would be used for a side view combat scenario, no? Was also wondering if someone could point me to the resource where I might be able to convert to side view combat with a script.

I dunno, basically completely green here, would like to know where to get started so I can read up on some basics, download some extras and get started on my game.

And didn't see sub forums at the top.

I saw a side view battle script in the submitted scripts forum, though it looks like it still isn't translated from Japanese. Is that the one you were referring to?

Oh wow, looks like VX is the newest version huh?

I thought it was still XP. :D

VX is newer, I prefer XP though. It has better graphics and features in my opinion.

I moved this here since you're new and you're kind of greeting us, amidst the questions.

Anyway, yes, you can use custom anything in RMXP. If you're looking at animated battlers, it's likely that it's a battle system which uses Minkoff's Side View Battler script. There are many Custom Battle Systems (CBS) which use that.

Otherwise, just familiarize yourself with our Search function (DO NOT NECROPOST), check out the Helpful Links Sticky and the resources available in Resource Analysis, and hammer your way through the learning curve of picking up a new program just like the rest of us. The Academies are a good place to poke into if you're looking to hone a skill or learn more.

I could just use the program with the default settings no problem...but I want all the goodies!


So the reason some people think XP is better is because it's been out longer and has more support? If that's the only reason, I suppose I'll get VX since it will eventually be switched to I suppose.
