When Waterboarding Goes... "too far"...

A soldier waterboarded his four-year-old daughter because she was unable to recite her alphabet.

Joshua Tabor admitted to police he had used the CIA torture technique because he was so angry.

As his daughter 'squirmed' to get away, Tabor said he submerged her face three or four times until the water was lapping around her forehead and jawline.

Tabor, 27, who had won custody of his daughter only four weeks earlier, admitted choosing the punishment because the girl was terrified of water.

Is waterboarding some other euphamism here because I hope it's not what I think it is

Trust you to turn an article about child-torture into an article about paedophilia.

i thought waterboarding was like surfing o.O

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterboarding
Waterboarding is a torture technique that consists of immobilizing the victim on his or her back with the head inclined downwards; water is then poured over the face into breathing passages, causing the captive to believe he or she is dying. In contrast to submerging the head face-forward in water, waterboarding precipitates an almost immediate gag reflex.

hey i'll do that to my kids someday :toot:

hi im gonna sound hypocritical but lets please not turn this into a rr thread

i do think its torture, that or overall stupidity, even if he didnt intend to go that indirectly he totally did

It is torture. It's worse than torture, it's playing on a child's fears to get them to comply when bad parenting skills hasn't worked.

he's a soldier; he knows what it is. he did it because it's one of the only torture methods that's quick and doesn't leave a mark/isn't really deadly. which shows that he premeditated the punishment in case he would ever feel the need to use it.

when an abusive parent sees their kid do something wrong, in the heat of anger they will fly into a rage and beat/scream/harm. when a psychopath parent sees their kid do something they deem wrong, they will carefully construct a method of punishment and a cleanup plan to destroy the evidence. abusive parents need a hard swift kick in the netherds but psycho parents are people who shouldn't be allowed to function in society because they are an actual danger.

example:
abusive dad throws an encyclopedia at his son.
psychopath dad locks his son up in a cage for several days to "think about it".

the dude's a fuckin sicko and he needs psychiatric care/jailtime.

I agree completely (obviously) except for one point: my dad has thrown loads of encyclopedias at me, but there is no way he could ever be considered an abusive parent.

Umm... I'd think this would be abuse.

I don't think my parents are abusive, but they scream a CRAPLOAD. Hell, yesterday he almost sat on the cat, and he was pissed of AT THE CAT, walking around the house talking about how he's about to kill it. Everytime my parents do that, I get a blank face and just think at how irrational they are being.

I wouldn't consider a parent throwing an encyclopedia abusive without first knowing the intent. If a parent tells the child to stop doing something and the child responds by telling the parent to 'shut up' or ignores the warning, an encyclopedia flying at them wouldn't be abusive. In a case such as this, the parent isn't attempting to maim the child with the encyclopedia. There have been times where my siblings and I have talked back to our mother. We attempted to run, but my mom took aim with a shoe. Discipline when it is needed is not abuse. Spanking a child will not cause them to go through trauma.

Now on the flip side, the parent is angry for whatever reason and throws the encyclopedia with intent to cause as much harm as possible. That is abuse.

maybe so, but an encyclopedia and a shoe cause far different damage levels, even if you throw the encyclopedia with the intent to cause as little harm as possible. while spanking may not cause anyone any trauma, if done in moderation, an ENCYCLOPEDIA might, and not just the psychological kind!

Well I should have clarified that a little more into saying that they threw it so hard it left a mark or something.
My mom was pretty abusive, I used to get strangled and hit with books/vacuum cleaners/etc. And yelled at like nobody's business, and jeered, and generally made to feel like a piece of shit.
But even then she wasn't a psychopath. She would fly into rages, usually for no reason, but the "punishments" weren't premeditated.

People do stupid and impulsive things when they fly into a rage. It's just a part of being a human being some have a terrible time trying to overcome.
But the ability to take your child and exact upon them a planned and constructed method of punishment, meted out over a period of time--to see their anguish and to ignore their cries for mercy--that is chilling. That is the sign of a person who is remorseless, like people who neglect and abuse their pets for no reason. I'm way more frightened of people like that than people who just can't control their temper.

That's absolutely disgusting. He's a soldier, so he knew exactly what he was doing. He knew she was terrified of water. Even without that kind of knowledge it's horrible and abusive, but that makes it even worse.
