What's your job?

Figured we could see what everyone does for money/a living/supporting a coke habit

Let's have a format:

Title:

Description:

What you like/Hate about it:

Example, mine:

Title:
System Administrator

Description:
I work at a non-profit educational center, and I'm in charge of keeping everything running; IE, the public use computers (riddled with malware, trying to put edubuntu on them all), the network, upgrading work hardware, fixing whatever administration can't use ("I can't print from this computer >_<"), and fixing displays.

What you like/Hate about it:
They let me do my own thing, they tend to go with whatever ideas I bring up, such as putting edubuntu on the public use computers, and making startup scripts to clean out the home folders so nothing is left behind on them. The also take my advice on almost everything I suggest about the displays. The people I work with are very nice.

What annoys the hell out of me is: Nobody knows what's going on. Seriously. The above note, about not being able to print, was because the computer was plugged into a router which was plugged into another router which was plugged into a switch which was plugged into the router which the printer was plugged into. Whooh. All of the computers are infested with malware (from kids playing on them), and the hardware is extremely outdated; and almost half of the displays are broken in one way or another, a couple of the computers had fried PSUs for some reason.

I also do get terrific download speeds there, though :) I download all of my torrents there.

So what do you do?

Fair enough. But you should put:

Title:
Cocksucker

Description:
I suck huge dicks and swallow cum.

What you like/Hate about it:
Nothing I like drinking salty man cum and sometimes sticking it in my pooper
Also I BLOW FOR BLOW

alexis keep the obvious spam to rec room and twatting pls

heres mine

Title: Graphic Artist/Floor Plan Artist

Description: Main job is to take architects' rough drawings for new pre-construction residental floorplans, redraw in flash, make it look presentable/adherent to customer specs, have it morph based on options available (such as adding rooms etc), and put them into an easy-to-market interface. mostly for showrooms to allow prospective pre-con home buyers to mess with and define what they want in their new house.
I also do a lot of html crap and editing and etc etc lots of niche tech/art shit

What you like/Hate about it:
i like that it's an incredibly easy job 90% of the time. most of my coworkers are extremely cool. when im not busy or i have extra time i can fuck around on the internet etc. it's been a mostly stable job through the recession and the pay is ... well it's better than nothing!! also i can dress casual and they keep the lights off all the time (i really fucking hate overhead florescent lighting). plus the healthcare plan is p cheap.

i dont like a lot of things about it, but most of my complaints can be derived from me being in the same damn job for almost 5 years. i'm jaded.

there's no upward mobility b/c we've been at a hiring freeze for years and my supervisor will likely never ever ever accept a promotion (he's been offered before). i haven't gotten a bonus or pay raise in 2+ years b/c the company went through a huge slump a while back--and then i think they decided that, even though the slump is over, that we don't really need bonuses or incentives or raises or yearly parties etc etc anymore. eugh :/

also it's just dull. i don't have a lot of creative room because clients are always INCREDIBLY FUCKING PICKY about EVERYTHING adhering to standards. everyday kind of bleeds together. i keep wanting to get a job elsewhere but it;s real slim pickins for marketing/design jobs right now, and they're almost always the 1st to go, so I've kind of just been waiting for the job market to stabilize a little so i don't have to worry.

also my chair is really uncomfortable >:I

but yeah i've had some shitjobs so this is def a cakewalk by comparison and i don't hate it.

Title: Terran Commander

Description: Pretty much requires commanding many units to move around and fight and capture territories, while at the same time expanding my base and killing off mighty protoss and crafty zerg.

What you like/hate about it: It's pretty fun, but from time to time I get anally prolapsed by a zergling rush or reaper rush. I do enjoy eating the dumbass protoss player from time to time who thinks "LOL mass zealot" or "IM GONNA MAKE A GIANT ARMY OF VOID RAYS" while hiding behind his decent 2v2 partner. I'm still in practice league but its getting a bit too easy tbh so I'll probebly hit up the placement matches soon :/

You get paid for that necrile?

Title: Audio Engineer

Description: I make sound effects and sometimes musical scores for movie, tv and video games, but mostly small flash animations and small films.

What you like/hate about it: I freaking love my job. It's a dream, and I basically get small contracts to create my image of sound. I personally get to make what I invision, and its a remarkable thing. What I hate is that Im "contracted", so I am not an employee of the company or group that hires me. I get paid by them, but when all is done I cant claim them as my employer. Also, the pay is good, but atm its nothing to live off of. I usually get a hefty amount to do a long period of work, and unlike most jobs I get it all at once, not paid per hour/piece of work :/ Still fun as fuck though.

I dont have a job, and am currently unemployed. No one is willing to hire a 17 year old kid. So I guess my job is looking for a job. :c

man y'all make me feel like a slacker, except you dorks talkin' about vidyagames

I won't put it in a template or anything because it's not anywhere near a perma-job, but I just started (as in yesterday was my first day) as a teacher's aide for a kindergarden class. it's surprisingly awesome considering I'm basically a glorified babysitter for 13 kids.

Jbrist, I'd think that's alright, if you consider it a job :P

Moxie: Trust me, I probably slack off more than anyone here at their job. I think Ven is the only one with a legitimate job.

Title: Maintenance Technician

Description: Skilled labor in repair or replacement of Air Conditioning, Electrical Outlets, Breakers, Appliances (Dishwashers, Refrigerators, Stoves, Washing Machines, or Dryers) , Plumbing, Cementing, Painting, Drywall, Hot Water Heaters, and many more.

What you like/Hate about it: It pays okay, got a lot of experience from it. I work real hard but my boss basically does shit squat and shits all over me when shit and going right. SHIT. I get hot and sweaty a lot and need to drink plenty of water and rarely get to sit down behind a cozy comfortable chair and sit in the A/C all day your white collar bastards. I know enough about computers and scripting and math I dunno why the hell I am doing this for a living.

Title: Meat Department Clerk

Description: I work in the meat department of a Canadian grocery store called Sobeys. The official job title might be 'clerk' but I do very little of what clerks usually do (a person that works with records, accounts, letters, etc.)

Most of my job (I'd guess around 70%) is cleaning. In the meat department we have three rooms - a front room where people can come and order special cuts, kebabs, whatever, a cutting room where the butchers cut the meat, weigh it, and wrap it, and a cooler where we make ground beef and store meat and trays. I have usually three hours to clean it all. It doesn't sound that bad and the rooms aren't very big but we have two very large machines (the grinder and the saw) which require being completely taken apart and each part cleaned individually. Sometimes the butchers leave the place incredibly dirty, which means having to obtain the keys to the trash compactor, and that's a pain in the ass because the keys could be anywhere in the store. We also have to scrub the floors and cutting boards with special chemicals. Again, these three rooms can easily take a good three hours to clean, and that's not including any interruptions like the hose exploding or meat disappearing or hands getting cut off

The other 30% is spent either making ground meat, wrapping meat, filling out floor logs, serving customers, filling trays, helping customers find stuff, making kebabs, or 'facing' which is just going out every once in a while and reorganizing shelves and restocking to make everything look nice and attractive.

What you like/Hate about it: It's not bad for an entry level job. I normally hate cleaning but I really don't mind doing it at a grocery store for some reason. Most of the time you've alone in the back rooms, so it's very quiet and you don't have customers nagging you all the time. Plus you can sing along with the radio :3

The pay is minimum wage but for an entry level job I didn't expect any better. In Ontario our minimum wage for students is $9.60/hr which, if you ask me, is pretty cool!

I really like my co-workers with the job, though. There's only one woman that works in the meat department and the rest are really laid back, awesome guys. We have one guy that's been working with meat for over 40 years, and he just loves it. They love to joke around and we try and make the job as fun as possible.

The thing about this job is that you have to be very good at time management. You have a last of things that have to be done (emptying the garbage and cleaning the cans, for example) which isn't including any external complications. It can be very difficult to complete everything on time and I've had to stay late more than a few times. You never really get a chance to take a break and you've on your feet running back and forth until your shift is over, basically.

The water we use to clean and rinse with is extremely hot. I've burnt myself several times with this stuff. It's hot enough to cook meat. (seriously. when i wash the machine parts, a few minutes in this water is all it takes for chunks of meat to fry)

The job can be really gross sometimes but honestly, for a place that has a lot of blood and meat and organs etc. I don't find it so bad. The drains are absolutely disgusting, yeah, but you get so used to seeing pig juice and livers and whatnot that it doesn't even bother you after a while. Everything is always kept VERY sanitary and clean.

A lot of customers can be very rude or difficult to understand, which makes it hard to help them. Most are pretty nice (and some are just awesome which makes my day so much easier) but occasionally you'll get a customer that won't be pleased no matter what. And of course, it's never THEIR fault, so you have to do everything you can to help them. It's tough. :/

that sure is a lot of words on an entry level job huh! I may complain a lot but I'm still extremely grateful to have this job, after handing out dozens of resumes for several months beforehand. being employed is nice :3
