What do you do at work?

I didn't see a topic like this sitting around, so I figured why not? Tell us, what is your job? What do you do? Where do you do it?

I work at a small computer recycling company. Most of the time I'm listing items on ebay, but I occasionally help with taking computers apart or repairing them. We get all kinds of cool (read: geektastic) electronic gear in here. For example, we recieved a large number of "secure radio devices" that were formerly owned by the Secret Service a while back. The next month we had former USGS gear including hollow cathode element lamps (think lightbulbs that have filaments made out of mercury, sodium, lead, etc.).

I also work part time as a page at a library. Not the "apprentice of a knight" type page, it means I shelf books. What a mentally stimulating job that is...  :dead:

Still, I like both jobs. The people there are a blast to work with, and that's what really counts.

I'm a graphic artist for an architectural design firm. More technically I'm a "floorplan artist". I design floorplans of homes based off very rough technical AutoCAD drawings, then I make them interactive.

So say like, you walk into a place that's preconstruction and selling preconstructed homes on lots. They show you the floorplans of the models they plan on selling, and you can click through the floors, select plan-altering options, and see everything get updated as you go. Then you can print it out and take it with you, all nice and cleaned up and easy to understand.

It's a very boring/repetitive job honestly but I can walk into work in pajamas if I feel like it, everyone always keeps it dark, I'm not bothered very often, my bosses are cool as hell, and I have the internet to stalk during downtime :)

I'm a level designer for Ubisoft Montreal. My job is to think about a level, do the architecture, create the atmosphere, establish the events that occures in it, place the obstacles like enemies, puzzles, etc.
It's a really great job, I love doing it. I've always wanted to do that.
Right now I'm waiting between 2 projects, so I'm playing Call od Duty 4, I go on Youtube and I spend 99% of my time here on this forum!

I work as a Receptionist at Great Clips during the week and as their sign spinner during the weekend. I make shit for money and I spend most of it on... herbs.

I'm a web programmer at SCL Medtech. Basically I do anything UI programming (JavaScript, HTML, CSS, etc.).

Basically, our company produces small devices, Can2Go devices (named as such for the application layer protocol we designed) which create a wired and wireless network of sensors.

All in all, it's fun stuff, and well paid for a Comp. Sci. student.

So as you can imagine, when I'm at work (20 hours a week), I just...work...there's really never any shortage of job.

Why don't you move to Montréal, there's plenty of jobs here! :P
I don't know how many studios there are in the US but I'm sure there's a place for you there. They are always looking for more people. :thumb:

So if I show up at Ubisoft you'll get me a job ?

My friend was a tester there for a while (some Naruto game I believe), but honestly, it didn't look that much fun (and didn't pay half-well enough).

I am a teaching assistant at a course I had a year ago at the university where I study. (Logical programming -_-)
The programming language in use is very fucked up so I am helping people most of the time. There's typically very little time for anything else other than chatting a little with the teacher and the other assistant.

I try to combine my activities as a PhD student (Computer Networks, Wireless Sensor Networks) and as a Cisco Networking Academy Instructor (holding a four months CCNA course now). Tuesday or Sunday is the same for me, i'm always busy these days. I don't have to move to my university or to meet schedules every day, i am free to organize my time, as long as i respect the deadlines i have. As a result i'm often at home, i often work during the night and of course i don't have many colleagues around.
I can hardly find anything fulfilling in all this... please, save me.

I'm a full time undergraduate physics student. Part time, I work at the "Mechanics Help Centre" helping first year physics and engineering students with their physics homework.

Oh, great clips, I use to go there--- until one of the barbers accidentally shaved half of a customer's hair off. He left completely bald, and I haven't gone there since.

Worked as a sound designer/composer for a game dev. company, then as quality control and tester. It was a casino game company though [Gametronics], so it wasn't nearly as fun as say, an actual game-game company. For the sound part of the job, I just get design documents with detailed action lists and the like where sound is needed, decide on and make a sound for it, document it, and sometimes get to write some background music/music effect. For the quality control part, it was basically just extended beta-testing with 100-pages of things to do and look for, and the occasional "yay I won $5000 but that's not gonna go on my paycheque". Testing's hell.

I managed schedules and materials, and I do competitor analysis on a materials level / engineering design level on a type of product that you probably are using right now. Extreme engineering.

Anyone else here under extreme regulations on what they can talk about from work? All I have to say is in 2010 if you have any spare cash, you may consider owning something I worked on. And by 2013, I'm willing to bet at least 50% of you will own one.

:X

Cashier at Canadian tire...I deal with the shitty customers that yell at you when their shopping experience was crap.

Whatever, it pays good enough and my coworkers are really cool.

Just need the money for university tuition.

I applied there. Never got a call back.

And we always call it "Crappy Tire" because it's easier to say.
