Welcome to HBGames, a leading amateur game development forum and Discord server. All are welcome, and amongst our ranks you will find experts in their field from all aspects of video game design and development.
Well, made this website for my school work. I could do with some opinions on it (part of the work) so I can make it better. Have to ask the target audience and all that, and since it's for a games company, who better to ask?
I'd suggest talking to someone at school about getting Dreamweaver working. Publisher is an absolute joke that will make your eyes bleed once you've used it.
I can't highlight or select any of the text, which is bad.
It's a bit of an odd way to present a website, but each to their own I guess.
Here are a few things I dislike :
1. The splash page - Why is it there? Splash pages are usually to warn viewers that what they are about to see is mature OR a directory page so that they can go straight to what they're looking for without actually entering the site i.e if forums and website.
My site is an example of a valid splash page. There are three admins and it gives the viewer a chance to select who without going through my own.
2. The actual images you've used are too large. I don't mean this by file size (But they could be lower) but physical. As of now your images are like this:
http://afarrpg.freepgs.com/nxmedia/img4.gif[/img]
But why not cut out the excess space and just have this:
I saved my version as a top spec JPEG so please, Save the smart arse comments about it being bigger in filesize.
3. There's nothing there! The content level is fairly shite and you've not left yourself any room for expansion. You've made a non expandable site and it's based around media. That's DEFINITELY not going to work. Not unless the company/individual has retired and everything can be shown without any question of updates.
I have to agree with everyone the site is way too small which makes all the text be crunched up together. You should follow what $t3v0 said but I think you could more likely make a better one if you start over.
I should have explained, we have a "client brief" we have to follow. The "scenario" we had was we have a small company who wants just a few-page website that will link to other sites from it. The brief said:
-the company has small screen resolutions on their monitors
(stupid exam board, I know - it's the customers monitors they need to think about)
-the website had to have a splash screen
(The exam board set us a "brief" but we got to choose a company to do it for, so I chose my own "company" as it's easier).
I can't highlight or select any of the text, which is bad.
That's just the way publisher works. It's an old version our school has.
Oh and I'm not using CSS or tables... I'm more "profficient" with Dreamweaver, but as that's not working (I found out it's a faulty installation) I had to resort to Publisher which I know nothing about.
How small screen resolution? ???
As for customers... I don't think anyone uses that resolution.
I don't believe that there is a computer today that uses 320x240 resolution.
And the site looks like it's made exactly for that resolution.
Maybe I'm wrong... But I do believe that you should make those pictures bigger, at least for res 640x480...
One more thing... I would suggest that you make a image of that company that you can use as a background. Use tables! I don't know about the school you're in but I believe that they should have at least Microsoft Front Page installed on their computers... :-\
