Web Design Tips Needed

I'm looking to begin creating a template for a website that my band can use. Now at the moment I'm just looking for tips on how to create and interesting aesthetic design that isn't too complicated, but not too bland, and is user friendly. I have basic photoshop skills so I feel that the creating the template for my site should be fine, it's just trying to get original ideas that I'm struggling with. I'm also looking for something that can easily be edited or mimiced to create similar templates for myspace, bebo etc.

Well, for starting why don't you pick a free website template that you like and start modifying it to your likings, its a lot easier than starting one from scratch if you don't know where to start, also drawing a rough draft of the page do help a lot.

1) Design web by software.
2) Visit other sites to get idea about design.
3) Use already created web template.
4) Use CSS.
5) Use Div tag only.
