Weapons & Equipment Basic Question.

How do I give items/weapons/armor etc. to my characters
1. to start with
and
2. through other NPCs and events?

1. In the Database->Actor tab, I believe you can select weapons and armors for the player to equip. Make sure that actor's class can equip the weapon or armor, though, or it won't show up. You can't start with items in your inventory, but you can add them with the command below in the first event.

2. Use the event commands "Change Items", "Change Weapons", and "Change Armors." They're pretty self-explanatory.
 
Alright thanks! Although.. I made the event do so and it didn't put it into my equip list.. when I test play. instead I had to go to the actors tab under database.. and change it in which I had it when I started testplaying and before I touched the event that was supposed to give it to me...
 
Hey, Drerius, make sure your actor can use the weapon type that you're trying to give him.  Just find the classes page, and check the weapons he can use.  Use a parallel event to add the weapons by the way.  Then after you add the weapons (change items, change weapons, change armor) then put control self switch A on.  So you don't just keep getting them or you'll have 99 of everything!  Make sure you add a second page with the condition for the Self Switch A, or it won't work right.

Let me know if you still need help.  (By the way... I went to dinner came back and until now TOTALLY forgot that I was working on your game for you... XD!  So I'm going to go do that right now.  I'll add a parallel process event so you can get see how I add weapons.  (Another good idea is just to make an event within the storyline where the character opens a chest to get his "gear" or something.)

Alright so I got the guy to give my actor the armor and sword.. now by adding a self switch how will that prevent him fromgiving it to me over and over again? once I talk to him again won't that just reactivate the event and self switch again and again? I clicked erase event it stopped it but the guy disappeared and that's not what I want.

Okay, lol.  You're close.

The self switch works exactly like a regular switch, but it ONLY affects that event, making it simpler.  At the top of the event page, you need to click "new page"  Then, on this page, under "conditions"  you need to check the self switch box and set it to A.  That way, if this event's self switch A is on, then this page is activated.  So it won't EVER play the last page again, UNLESS you turn the self switch off.  Make sense yet?  On the second page you'll want to put something like.... "Good luck, hero!  See you around."  That way, it won't seem wierd to hear him say it over and over if the player keeps talking to him.

By the way.....  Wasn't I working on the cutscene AFTER sleeping in the inn?  lol how did you get the gold to sleep in the inn??  It seems that I start out broke. XD
 
haha! okay that makes sense I will post in a few minutes to say if it worked for me.

to get the gold for the inn, from the player starting position walk one square up and you may need to hit the action button, and you will have the gold :) that was just a quick dummy event to get the gold, since Idk how to start my actor out with it.
 
Hmm.. how will I set the self switches for gaining the weapon and armor.. if there is more text after it is obtained? Do  I set the rest of the text under the self switch? (choices brance)

the event that you're working on I need the two men on the bridge hidden from the player's view until that event is activated after sleeping in the inn lol, just to put it out there, thanks :D
 
Okay, this is what I've done...

First off, I don't mean to be too... critiquey... but your inn was a little too....   not mapped good.  lol.  I'm sorry.

I mapped you up a very simple, yet cozy inn example and I'll add an event there that gives you starting items.  You can just use it as an example obviously. 

Next, I made two test characters outside the inn that get into a little argument as soon as you walk out.  That will show you how to use switches to activate invisible npcs.  And I used the sign outside the inn to give you weapons and gold also, and showed you (using comments even... whoa.)  how to use self switches.  Good enough?

I'll edit this post and send you the link once I've got it uploaded, deal?
