Want to be a Judge?

We have about 10 days left on this contest.

We have a few staff judges already lined up, and have asked for potential judges at the Scirra forums, but we'd also like a couple of judges from the HBG community!
Do you like games? Do you like forming opinions on them? Why not judge our contest??

The judging rubric is here:
viewtopic.php?p=873496

REQUIREMENTS TO BE A JUDGE:

To be a judge for the contest, you need to:

1.) Be available to judge all entries between April 1-3.

2.) Have time & patience to give a fair playtest to 10-15 games. You will need to play them either until their conclusive ends, or until a point that bugginess or unfair difficulty has forced you to stop.

3.) Have a fairly decent eye for design, and a good grip on English -- Part of the judging rubric is in speculating on how well an entrant has beautified & honed their entry thread.

4.) Have speakers or headphones -- Part of judging involves assessing sound!

5.) Have a decent internet connection, Chrome (browser), and a PC that isn't from the stone ages (if the game SEEMS to lag just because of problems on your end, it could negatively affect your judging).

6.) Be a registered member here (obviously)!

7.) Be fair & balanced (and not in the FOX News way, but ACTUALLY fair & balanced)!

8.) ... Not be personally entered into the contest. (Sorry, entrants!)

If you feel like you meet those criteria and want to judge, you can either post here, or PM me.

I'll fill you in on further details if you are interested.

Thanks a bazillion!
I will give you further details if you're interested.

Thank you so much for all your support, everyone!

That week is Holy Week, which is a national week long holiday, and even though I do need to carry out a strict study schedule, I can probably find the time to play some fun games. :)

If i remember i would be possible to judge

As for the game i was working on has been lying in a ditch somewhere, with the for me impossible coding..

Yeah, I think so. The more judges we have signed up, the better. If it turns out you can't finish, or if you're gone or something those days, then we'll have backup judges, so don't sweat it too much ... :)

I'd like for results to be posted on either the 4th or the 5th so hopefully that will be enough time for all the judges.

I may end up extending the judging timeframe to allow for more time to play games ... Due to the large number of entries!

Plus it feels nicer to announce the results on a friday, so people can celebrate over the weekend.

Anyway, when judging begins, non-judges will not see any activity going on about the contest, as judging discussion will take place in a ~SECRET JUDGE ONLY FORUM~.

The contest forum will remain open so people can root for their favorites.

Then we'll post the results after judging is complete :D

A week or so after the results are posted, all entries will be moved to the Completed Games forum, and the judging results will go into the Announcements forum.

Venetia,

How will we know if we're chosen as a judge? Will we get a PM? Or will a list be posted up?

Thanks!

I'll be PM'ing all judges on the 30th with all their instructions.

On the 31st, I will add all judges to a special group that gives them access to a forum that only they can see. ~SO EXCLUSIVE~

There will be a discussion panel and judging templates and breakdowns on exactly how to judge and guidelines and all that good stuff.

I've gone out of my way here to make it as clear and easy as humanly possible!

If you get the PM on the 30th that you've been chosen to be a judge, please do not share it with non-judges until after the contest is over. I want the judges to remain relatively anonymous so there's no possibility of rigging votes or having entrants trying to kiss up to judges or anything sleezy like that. Not that I suspect any of our entrants of being liable to attempt something like that, I think they're all perfectly wonderful ladies & gents, however it's always a good idea to play it safe :D

I feel like I want to reward the judges somehow, too, for helping us with this. If you have any suggestions on how we could reward you for your time & effort, let me know!
