Hey everyone.

For a long while I've had this idea about an online game that has to do with a little history I wrote about a world called Eversorrow. Well, I recently discovered Vlad's VNG and decided to make this idea a reality. So here is my concept.

The game is online, obviously. And for now, I happen to know that pvp is not supported by the VNG system. So I've rewritten my story to fit that... but I left it open so when someone finally does script in a pvp system, I can set off an event and make an expansion/patch.

The history - In brief:
Eversorrow was once inhabited by only humans. A few of these humans wandered off and began their own colony within the forests and eventually learned to control the elements by ways of magic. These humans slowly became known as elves. (Yes. The very cliche race that every mmo includes. But wait. It's not as cliche as you think.)
The elves were soon sought out to become warriors and scholars. One human king, Lokai, met a brilliant elf and he made him the chancellor of his kingdom.

Lokai was thirsty for power and wealth. He and his army began to conquer other kingdoms just for the land and power. Eventually his invincible army and him got too cocky and ended up on another continent, drunk and unprepared for a battle, and were all killed.
Lokai and his army were then dragged into the confines of Hell for what seemed an eternity.

Meanwhile, the chancellor of Lokai's kingdom began feeling the same thirst for power. But he had no army. Soon, he had called forth elves from all over the world to fight for him. They used their once peaceful intelligence as weapons of mass destruction. The elves were able to call forth earthen spirits from the ground in the shape of large wolves if they needed protection from harm. They soon began using these wolves to hunt down straggling survivors from raids and battles.

After several wars, the elves had nearly conquered the world. During their final raid on a small village, a young girl approached the chancellor, covered in soot and ash. "Please spare my mother, elf." She begged. The elf summoned his wolf and sent it after the girl. Mid-run, the wolf stopped, turned and approached the chancellor. It began shifting into an exact replica of the human-like elf. Finally, a naked clone, the wolf reached for the blade from the elf's sheath and shoved it into his chest.
Thus, the Werewolves were born.

Back in Hell, Lokai begged the goddess of the damned, Rhieka, to please let him and his warriors go back to earth. He promised her he would do anything she asked if she would please spare them. After decades of his begging, she finally grew tired and decided to break the rules she had sworn to follow. She allowed Lokai to enter Eversorrow again, under one condition: He took a gift for the world with him. He agreed.

Lokai awoke in a dark field. Days went by as he wandered the world, thirsting and craving a type of liquid he had never lusted for before. The sun weakened him and made him tired. Soon, he realized that the only thing that made him feel alive again, the only thing he could taste, the only thing he needed any longer, was blood. For he was a Nightwalker. Or, as the inhabitants of Eversorrow eventually named the creatures of the night: Vampires.

As the elves were hunted and killed by the Lichen, they eventually began losing their magic. Only the most powerful elves could conjure fire and freeze the land under their feet. The elves turned into savage beasts; intelligent, but driven by anger and hate. They turned into monsters with sharp claws and shark-like teeth. Their pointed ears grew very long and their backs became hunched. The elves' need for power left them barbaric savages within the trees.

As the world began to fall apart with all of these unnatural races springing from the bowels of hell and Mother Nature herself, the evil of the world began to overwhelm the natural magical essence. Soon enough, the shadows started to leave their natural makers and combine with one another. These essences of pure evil became two-legged beings called Shades (Name pending) The shades conjured weapons and armor made of pure shadows and soon became a powerful race within this unsung war.

As the Shades began to inhabit the world, the Holy Order within the Heavens decided that this was the last straw. They sent hundreds of battle angels down to Eversorrow to destroy these unnatural races.

After a century of these four new races being slaughtered by the angels, they soon realized that if they were not unified, they would be wiped from Eversorrow forever. They began working together and fighting off the angels as the earth began to crumble at their feet.

You play one of the four unnatural races in the game:
Vampire
Werewolf
Elf
Shade

Each of the races has special abilities that they learn each level. But these are only a few of the skills available within the game.
Eventually, we plan to have trainers throughout the world who offer to teach you skills or spells in trade for gold, items, and even experience.

Each race can ultimately become any kind of traditional rpg role they choose. Each race, however, has their strengths and weaknesses. Werewolves are the natural tanks. Vampires are rogues. Elves are mages, and Shades are kind of a mix between warlocks and fighters. (They are the newest race, and we haven't really developed them fully yet.)

A werewolf CAN however; learn to hurl fireballs or to curse their enemies with some DoT spells. But their stat points will have to be spent wisely every level if they hope to tank AND cast spells. Anything is possible in this game.

Spells even have a unique point system. Each spell or skill is worth 10 - 100 points, depending on its strength. A player has a 100 point action bar where he can equip his spells/skills. An elf can easily use 10 different weak spells and be very useful in a party, however; if he chooses to be a damage dealer while partying with a tank, while in town, he can change to a very powerful AoE spell and perhaps a somewhat strong ranged spell. This way he's dealing plenty of damage from a distance away. Though, he won't be able to fit many other spells on his bar, thus making him very weak if caught one on one.

Along with that new system, we want to change mana a bit.

We plan on using energy instead of mana. When the energy bar is full, you can trade all 100 points of energy for 100 points of mana. While using mana, your energy is regaining. So when you're out of mana, you can trade your energy again. This is a lot like the elves, summoning power from the earth with physical energy. It corresponds to the ES history.

However; if this is too difficult, or doesn't work as well as we thought, then our backup plan is to use 100 mana points and have it regenerate very quickly like in GuildWars. I love this idea because it allows casters to keep working even when they are low on mana. They can pause for a moment and they're ready again. With this system, spells must be weakend tremendously though.

Other than those few changes, the rpg would be very much traditional. Quests will have a storyline you can follow that WILL level the player accordingly, so if you choose not to do sidequests you can still continue the game up to the level cap of 60 (currently)
Sidequests will give less experience and more items than traditionally though, because of this.

We also want to include dungeon type areas such as instances in other mmo's like WoW. But instead of being based on killing powerful enemies, we would include a lot of puzzle solving activities in order to find the treasure and the bosses in each area. No longer will you have to kill a boss to receive epic armor. Now solving difficult puzzles (That will hopefully always be changing and updated) can get you these items as well.

We're hoping to get this game off the ground soon. We currently have the server set up, and the game is online, but nothing has been mapped or edited yet. We want to recruit a small, but decent team. Right now we have three members. One is mapping, I am writing and eventing, and the other is going to be an artist and spriter. But we really need a few more. Especially someone who can script. We don't need a lot of ridiculous new scripts. Just minor edits to scripts that are already made. Maybe the occasional fixes between scripts that don't work well together, etc. The VNG already has a battle system, mouse system, and all the basics we'll need. We just need someone who can help us work smoothly while creating maps and events in the game. (A lot of bugs occur while trying to simply get the character onto a map from the creation screen.) Those are the types of things we need a scripter for.

Spriters: We need gear and weapons for the characters. Along with an amazing werewolf sprite and an elf sprite that is OOAK.
Writers/Eventers: Quests can start seeming tedious and all the same if one person is making them for an entire game. We need someone with a fresh creative side who wants to add some interesting flare to our quests and storyline.
Mappers: Mapping everything is tiresome. If anyone wants to join our mapping team, please let me know.

I really hope we can get this game off the ground and into alpha testing by Christmas. Though... I know it will be difficult to do. If anyone is interested at all, please join our forum. The link is in my signature.

Thanks for reading. Leave me some feedback please. I need to know what you think. And we REALLY need some recruits!

This post is now in Project Dev, as its been started and almost ready for alpha testing. Mods, you can delete this, lock it, giftwrap it, or whatever it is you do to old, useless topics. : )

Peace.
