Volrath's goodbye

No drama here, more of a polite notification.

I used to fit in around here, now I don't. That's about all that needs to be said. If people feel like chatting with me, I'm over at the MotW forums (in me sig). I'll trust ArtBane to manage the MotW thread, though I'll update my own introductory post in there when necessary. And Doctor, don't worry, I will get you your To Anywhere review when it's complete, I'm a man of my word.

Peace.

i doubt anything i say will mean much since i hang out with you away from these forums

but i'm glad i met you here and stuff and you're a real cool guy. you're TOO GOOD of a person to hang around here so go on man. you're too good for this place and i totally get where you're coming from. we're on totally opposite sides of this thing but that doesn't mean i don't understand you, which i totally do.

good luck dude, see you around (i've been craving more rock band since i've gotten back to school)

Great. My actions are the final straw to send away a good member. Wonderful. sigh.

Well anyway, I never got the vibe that you like me very much, but I like you. Good luck with everything, good luck in your life.

That's really all I can say. That, and I'm sorry if I came off like an asshole to you; I never actually meant to.

I feel like I should have something nifty to say, but all I can think of is... "damn... there goes Volrath?  wow, that sucks.  moving on."

but that sounds insulting when instead it's only because i think the same thing, if that makes sense?

have fun

I don't get feisty in those topics for my own sake, I don't make my arguments because I feel like I need to defend my work. Obviously none of that was meant to be a commentary on my work, the MotW font is perfectly readable. I'm aware of this. I just don't like to see members treated that way, talked down to in that way.

There's a regrettable nuance deficiency in these discussions, people think I'm trying to eliminate criticism altogether and "coddle" members. There doesn't seem to be any wiggle room between "coddling" and just yelling at people. Not flaming, I know it doesn't fit that definition, but call it what you want, I still don't like it...and I've discussed this numerous times in public threads and private ones and have been met with rants devoid of any introspection or humility, and rife with intellectual dishonesty. Truth is, I like most members here as individuals, but the overall mentality has made me feel like an unwelcome outsider.

Peace. For real this time.

no, i seriously think it was me far more than it was you. for a long time, it's been obvious that this was gonna happen and i'm pretty glad that volrath stuck around this long. but it's just the general direction that we're forced to take the site and stuff. volrath's too nice compared to us and it's just his time

i dont want to like SPEAK FOR HIM or anything but im pretty sure this is the case. he's an old-timey GOOD GUY and in this day and age there's no place for such men... no country for old men

EDIT: damn you beat me bro.

I don't think many people understand just how right you are.

What I think Volrath tried to make people understand is that you should respect other people just like you want to be respected. Not admire. Respect. Do until others and those old proverbs.

The only thing that allowed him to point out the major issue he tried to present was the immense respect everyone had towards him. Any new champions will be quickly crushed and driven away.

I'm going to follow my chum's example and make this post as non-offensive as possible. Volrath and I are in agreement about the forum's current condition but the difference is I treat this place as more of a business relationship and I don't want any personal conflicts to cut off my connection with the fans of Master of the Wind here. So despite what has happened I shall remain on this forum at least until the completion of our project.

I definitely see where you're coming from.  I go to another forum, then come back here, and it's a dramatic change.  I actually prefer the cleaner, more professional attitude to this forum at this point, but I like some of the people here.  I haven't really talked to you at all, Volrath, but I can see that you've been a very influential member.  I wish you good luck.

I think it really speaks of your character that although you have the same experience with the forum's flavour as a lot of past emigrants, you've approached it from a reasonable standpoint and have avoided drama altogether. The bit about the rants you encountered brought about the expected twinge of "oh-god-did-I-do-that" (and I suspect that at some point I did,) but it would be deserved, at least, since you haven't demonstrated any predisposition towards making grand and melodramatic hyperbole a part of your statements. I was actually really impressed with this, even though I didn't have the most remote reason to expect anything else. I was never around for most of your tenure here, so I'm limited in what I can say without feigning familiarity (and then I would feel like a liar,) but judging from what I've seen of your posts you're the kind of person I'll miss.

Best of luck to the both of you in this and future projects, and I'm sorry that you find that you don't fit in here anymore.

(Guardian, Arbiter's point was that it's natural for there to be some degree of contrast between forums, since they each have their own distinct flavour to some extent.)

Ah, that makes sense.  I've had a long week at school.

But still, this forum is very different from most of the ones I've been to.  I guess that's why I didn't get his sarcasm.  Sorry, Arbiter.
