Vista SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sero

I made this game for my friend. So like I have the great and all powerful XP. My friend has vista<-VISTA IS GAY!!!!!.
So he followed all my instructions. When he tried to play it it didnt boot up. It got an error. (IDK what he said it was)
So like my other friend had the same problem. How do I make my game compatible with gay old vista?
I think I saw a post about it. Or maybe it was about making RMXP itself compatible........

PS: Can you provide me with a link for a tutorial?
PSS: If it is already posted, please link me to it.

Guys, just sit back, calm down, and try to help. I've found two pieces of good advice in this thread already:

If you don't know what the error said then there's nothing we can do and so the entire thread is pointless.

Has he tried right clicking the program and running as administrator?

Oh man... If you have an error, post the error. Without it we don't know anything.

Btw, has your friend installed the RTP package?

In response to the initial question, what did you do when you compiled the game for your friends? Did you add every image and audio file that you used to the game folders? If not, that's your first problem, because they probably don't have the RTP installed on their computers. Next, did you include RGSS102e.dll in the main game folder, where you see Game.exe? If not, then the game is looking for and failing to find it, and that is one more reason why it isn't working. Did you give them instructions to run Game.exe in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2, as an Administrator? If not, that could also be a problem. If you have done all of these and still get an error, it is probably something to the effect of "RGSS Player has stopped working...", which we still haven't figured out how to solve.

The Game.exe is Vista compatible. You (or your friend) probably did something wrong, that's why it wont work. Just post the error.

The Game.exe is Vista compatible.

Depends on how long ago they bought Vista. If it was far enough in the past, then they probably need to set it up to run in compatibility mode for XP SP2. (To do that, right click, select properties, and go to the compatibility tab)

Also sounds like he may not have included all of the other files needed to run it (RTP has already been mentioned) but simply sending somebody the Game.exe file will do nothing at all, you need to send him of all of the files used in the project.

Have you even tried it on someone else's XP computer? If it works there, the error is because of vista. If it also doesn't work on XP, you can change the thread title and your anti-vista posts.

He got every file, not just the exe. It must be Vista. Im gonna tell him to try the XP SP2 Compatibility thing. I have 3 XP computers( Im not changing my mind about vista 'till it stops sucking.) I tried it on them. It worked fine. So once again, it must be vista.

Well many people on this board use Vista and have no issues so you may not change your mind but once again its most likely an error on your side, not the operating systems. It might be worth you uploading this game and letting other people running Vista try to play it, if it doesn't work for everyone of them then you can blame the operating system I guess.

That's the thing, not everyone here can run RMXP on Vista. Depending on how old the copy was bought, it will need the compatibility fix, but some people get an error to the effect of "RGSS Player has stopped working..." no matter what they do, and I haven't been able to fix that. (In fact, my vista machine gives that error now)

Never had it and i've had vista scince d-day. Do you people know how to update?

Vista doesn't suck, and in fact I have never had any problems with it and compatibility. Having a 64-bit system on the other hand... That causes alot more problems...

Anyway, get him to do all the standards. Retry, reboot, reinstall anything, then scan the system if all else fails, registry errors in vista do actually f*ck the system up.

Peace

Then you're pretty lucky. (As in, just survived a nuclear holocaust by sheer luck kind of lucky) Most of us with Vista had some compatibility issues, and for a select few, there is no known solution to the problem. I don't know whether it is a specific version of Vista, an update, or something else entirely, but whatever the case, there is a problem. As you can see from the discussion, people have encountered varying levels of difficulty in getting the program to work properly. I used to have RMXP working just fine on a Vista machine, but, since then, the program has descended to the same error the author is recieving, and nothing I have tried has fixed it.

You can even see the same probelm here.

Also, at the author: What version of Vista do you have, and is it fully updated? (As in, do you have Vista Ultimate, something else, or what?)

OK... I'm kinda surprised I'm the first person to suggest this, but wouldnt the solution be to go into properties and run the executables in xp compatability mode & set to run as admin?? thats what i had to do to get mine working... there were two files i had to do it to, i dont know which ones but i elieve they were rpgxp and game

Actually, the only reason we didn't suggest this method was because of this quote from the first post:

So he followed all my instructions.

Which, if it was true, meant he had already tried that.
