Note to moderators: This game was posted a while back, I think the original thread is on page 5 of this forum. I wasn't entirely sure whether to add to that one instead, so I made this new one. The game had changed almost entirely, this isn't a duplicate post. If the threads need to be merged, lemme know. =)

The surreal worlds of Venaliter Rising are arranged in a Flat Universe, rather than the Round Universe of real life. At the edge of every world (called "Planes") is a thick cloud of dimensional void that is impossible to see through, though absolutely simple and harmless to pass. Through every void is a link to another plane; this link never changes, meaning the worlds can be mapped rather easily. Communication, such as telephone or e-mail, cannot be sent through them however. Planes are odd in their environments. It is not necesarily cold at the north and south ends and hot at the equator. There are no seasons either. The following three worlds are all adjacent planes.

Empatia north of Wendir, was once a chilling remote plane, with little land, forboding climates, and only a hand-full of villages dotted across the moss plains. There are no known intelligent species that are truly native to Empatia, and if there had been, all evidence has surely been wiped out by now. Roughly three and a half centuries before the current day, the wealthy owners of half a dozen smaller companies merged together and moved their main centers of operation to the central islands of Empatia. Though rough at first, the deep natural harbors proved excellent places to construct airships, and within decades, massive freighters could be seen coming to and from all the surrounding planes.
Empatia is ruled entirely by the MidNorth Corporation, and even has its own army- Only for defensive reasons, however. Those in charge of the plane care very little for what happens outside, and has never seen any need to expand their territory. No government officials are ever elected, but rather selected. No one is even sure of the identities of the leaders, even their race, gender, and quantity. The only publicly known members are the Executives that each run their own parts of every major and minor region.

For thousands of years, Wendir was one of the greatest centers of civilization throughout the planes- and still is, but only in very, very small pockets and deep corners. Baronies (essentially countries ruled by Barons) covered the vast majority of the land, all fairly peaceful, other than the occaisonal clash of blades at the borders. Much of the plane is land rather than sea, so the emergence of airships caused the global economy to boom. For ages, most everyone lived prosperously.
For the most part, Wendir is very hot and arid near the center and to the west, with temperate to sub-arctic temperatures in the north, and lush forests and jungles to the east. Further to the north is the Empatia plane, and further to the east is the Norras plane. Most races of Wendir had a good if not very serious appreciation of nature and the world around them, so rather than creating small cities all over the place, every country simply had two or three metropoleis, and a couple farming communities surrounding them.

Little is known about the current-day state of Norras. In better times, Norras was a fair land, consisting mostly of temperate planes and steep alps. Norras is the original home of humanity, before the large migration to the new world, Wendir. Most of the land's history is vague and unclear, and an immense amount of historical records were lost to various wars over time. Eventually, a power struggle over a large portion of the plane lead to disaster, and all but a few coastal regions to the west had become unhospitable wastelands.
No map of Norras is available at this time.

Humans originated on plane of Norras, mostly on the east coast of the only continent. For thousands of years society was limited to small groups of nomadic tribes or clans, until roughly 3906 BC, when kingdoms had started to emerge, and gunpowder had been invented. Four hundred or so years later, war had broken out all across the the plane. At this time, a large number of humans had migrated westward into Wendir, where they could escape the horror of global warfare.

Everything seemed to happen overnight. The skies of Wendir's south seas blackened as an unstoppable armada of warships drew ever nearer to the land. The various nations had been at peace with one another for centuries, meaning very few military forces were avaliable for instant combat. Unprepared, cities one by one fell to the hulking invaders. Decades passed and society was but a shadow of what it once was. Across the land were countless over-crowded refugee camps, plagued by nomadic marauders and other-worldly threats. Even today, the occasional invader airship can be seen flying over the land.

The MidNorth Corporation has a firm grasp over Empatia and most of the surrounding planes to the south, southeast, east, and northeast. Though technically a Capitalist Dictatorship, refugees from planes such as Wendir and Norras are grateful for support. Ongoing efforts are made in restoration of the lands to their original glory, Wendir being more feesible and worthy of the effort. Empatia is entering a new golden age, though outsiders criticize the government for taking advantage of the tragic state of the surrounding planes. All in Empatia seems well and good on the outside, but a faint wind of disestablishment is in the air. A good eye could easily take note of everything that seems off in the plane, from shady dealings in public places to the ever-increasing demand for military personnel.
Many Wendirian soldiers, from both National Guards and Mercenary Groups, are voluntarily moving northward into Empatia, looking either to start a new life or re-enlist in the armed forces. Empatian Executives have started various campaigns in the larger cities, encouraging people to enlist, which some would find suspicious in a peaceful time. Regardless, they pay quite well. Roger Tarren, formerly a high-ranking commander in the Air Force of Audumna, (once a nation in central Wendir) has made the journey north, but has no intentions of going back into any military service.
Upon the early morning of his arrival at Overcity Airport #4, disaster breaks out at one of the far gates Roger finds that the past he left behind so long ago is finally catching up with him, and it's larger than he ever could have imagined.

Roger Tarren was born in the year 17 BC, in the country side of a small town in central Wendir. He had never met his biological parents, though fairly assumes that one of them was of a longer-living humanoid race. Throughout the first decade of the Fall of Wendir, he fought valiantly alongside various rural militias to push back the invading forces. Roger was later drafted into the Air Force, and over time rose through the ranks to become a commander aboard an aerial warship. As the war effort grew from dismal to hopeless, he took a risk and abandoned his ship over night. For the next few decades, he roamed the deserts and plains of central Wendir as a Drifter, attempting to hold together the uneasy peace of the scattered, isolated villages. Feeling there was no future for him in Wendir, Roger made the trek north, alone.

Venaliter Rising has a unique dialogue system- From beginning to end, in every cutscene and conversation, you will be able to choose everything that comes out of Roger's mouth. Though a lot of options are neutral, there will often be a choice between Positive and Negative response. Don't think of these as good and evil; you're not going to be able to kill everybody and become the antagonist. You can however choose to handle situations in a kind and diplomatic way, or be an asshole and beat your way to success. When selecting a dialogue option, you won't see the character repeat whatever you chose. "I said no." on the menu could turn into "Just screw off." in dialogue.

Throughout the entire game, you'll never see NPCs just standing around, walking in circles. They'll sit at tables, discuss business over drinks, point a gun at your head when you say the wrong thing, and much more. Not just people either- Birds will flock in trees and fly away as you get too close, fish will jump small waterfalls and rapids, and deer will bend over ponds for a nice, relaxing drink. Until you shoot them, of course- That's animated too.

The land of Empatia is massive. From the central hub of the Overcity, you'll fly to distant towns, explore ancient woods, and climb the highest mountains. A single region may have anywhere from 40-50 field maps with 3-4 cities, all loaded with people either too stupid or too lazy to solve their own problems. You should never have "nothing to do".
