Two questions about Faces (One VX, One XP)

VX: How do I succesfully use any new faces add to the material base? Whenever I add one, I can only choose part of the face and I don't understand why. Do I have to replace the already existing ones, like is needed for tilesets?

XP: How do I actually use Faces in XP? Is it the Show Picture event, or do I need a script?

I asked that, since I've seen some people say I need a script and other people saying I didn't. It was more a question of confusion that anything else, so thanks for clearing that up for me.

Ccoa's UMS is active & alive at RPG Revolution.

For VX, the facesets are grouped with 8 or 10 images in a single file. You can make your file bigger, or you can precede the name with a special character to indicate that there is only one image in the file...  (see the docs)

Be Well

[edit] I just looked at the doc, and the special character ($) is defined for character sets. It doesn't say it works for facesets. And the faceset size is 2x4, for a total of 8 faces per file.
Try naming the file with a $ as the first character in the name, and see if it works. Otherwise, make your image 4x wider, and 2x taller, with white space for the other frames.

For what it's worth, you can indeed show face pictures in XP with "Show Picture."  It's not terribly elegant, and it doesn't integrate well with things like moving the text box around, but it does work.

However, I highly recommend the UMS.  It does faces, among countless other useful things.

What other 'useful' things?

And I haven't tried the resizing thing yet. I'll have to get on with that, about now.

Resizing worked. Shame I'd have to do that for EVERY new face I add.

After I've already added one? How?

And, this is sort of related, but how do I put XP character sprites into VX. I know VX ones can be put into XP (I've done that before), but I want to know how to do it the other way around. The extra face was needed for an XP sprite that I intend to use.
