Heh, trying this again as the title says. I really reeeaaaaaallly enjoy spriting in general, it just seems life is a steamroller and enjoys chasing me :P

I had heaps of this done but then found the new templates, so this is something of a crude copypasta across. I figure it might be handy for NPCs in a modern set game.

A zoom tag would make it easier to critique. Everything looks ok to me. The hair looks a little dark (not technically a bad thing). It almost looks like she has side burns or her bangs are glued to her cheeks.

I think your biggest problems lie in your palette selections.

Spend more time on your palettes -- it's hard to critique something when the colors are willy-nilly.

Check out the sprites in ShowKaizer's sig. He has the PERFECT palettes--try to mimic them.

... Everything but the red shirt IS a HKCP pallette though! I think the hair palette was from your hair tutorial there, so I'm not sure what the problem is? Perhaps it's my shading that's crap :?

I recognize the dark blue palette but I don't recognize the other palettes. The dark brown hair's palette is fine, except that last dark hue looks very wonky, just edit that. Even the HKCP Standard palettes are rather plain and boring, you should never be afraid to use unexpected colors (as long as the saturation isn't crazy).

Is the white from the Pastels palette? Because those are meant to be used only if you're using pastels for EVERYTHING in your game. Those palettes don't have enough contrast to qualify for the standards.

Even if it's not, don't worry, it can be salvaged. Just up the contrast and rework the palettes. Your shading isn't really bad, it's just the colors that are hurting it, which is not a hard thing to fix.

No one seems to want to post their palette revisions or work, and I gotta say, that's one of the most important parts of pixelling, so don't be afraid to post a palette and ask how it can be improved! :D

Nope, both were from the standard palette (grey was seventh from the bottom, black the last). I'm usually hopeless with palettes - hence that red :P - but I thought I'd be safe with the HKCP ones :/

I will start posting my own palettes then, see if I can't fix it. :D

Anyway, I changed the colours of the two shirts, fixed the jeans and re-did the hair and shoes. How's it now?

(Also, holy shit that Imgzoom thing is cool! When was that added, I've never seen that before!)

Wow, HUGE improvement!

I'd say the white shirt still needs some contrast/more dark shades, and the darkest color in the hair, in the bangs, needs to be smoothed out a little, but that looks 100% better!

I have to agree! It looks much better then it did before! At first when I looked at it I saw nothing wrong but after the improved one was set next to the old one you can tell that a touch up did a lot! Nice job! Maybe life won't steamroll you on this one! =D Can't wait to see the others!  :thumb:

I have to say you're taking the advice very well. its looking better and better all the time. Personally I only have issues with the head. The hair in particular. Hope this helps:

Heh, thought I had the shirt fixed until I saw SK's response. I will fix that when I get home - though, while I'm at it a question - when you say more dark shades/contrast do you mean editting the palette again, or using the existing one to decrease the expanse of nothing in the centre of the shirt? 

*sigh* Now back to that infernal ticking music I'm supposed to be animating to ><  If I have to listen to it one more time I think my head will explode!

Started the animation on the shoes, fixed up the hair, animation on the jeans, and fixed up the undershirt a little and started on the animation (I haven't finished shading it yet)

Everything looks great! Only thing I see is on the side view of the jeans. Its good that you have it hanging in the back, but since theres that much material there, there should also be some resting on the top of the foot.
