Total Newbie Here

So I'm a complete newbie when it comes to game making. I found this page through the Half-Kaiser Construction Project. Those templates are simply amazing and I somehow muddled my way into this forum.

I guess my goal is to bring a game concept to life. The platform would be an RPG where the character is completely custom from looks to skills (think Ragnarok Online), but would incorporate a storyline and gameplay similar to the Squaresoft Romancing SaGa series. The storyline would change depending on certain factors (Birthdate, gender, skills, gameplay choices, etc). Initially, I'd make it single-player, but would like to add multi-player support, either as an add-on or standalone game. Other features I'd like to eventually incorporate would be mobile support (Android, iOS, WinMo).

From my limited knowledge of the community, I haven't found an engine that would help me accomplish this without learning a programming language. I simply don't have the time to go through all that, as I have a full-time job and several hobbies. However, a visual programming engine would be will within my capacity to use.

I realize this is somewhat of a pipe dream, as I have no programming experience to speak of, but I think that the concept is good enough to at least warrant a post on an online game making forum :biggrin:

hey, man, welcome! that sounds like an ambitious concept, to be sure. offhand I don't know of any sufficiently versatile tools that wouldn't require at least some programming, though; the RPG Maker series certainly isn't designed for that much freedom, and programs like Construct and XNA are excellent but require some knowledge of their respective languages (python and c#, I think?)

but hey, thinking big is never a bad idea. I'm sure you'll be able to find some help here at least. best of luck with all of this!

I think it's pretty much gone under at this point. it's a shame, too; the eHKCP in particular looked pretty awesome. back when I only had one game planned I was going to snake all those tilesets. because I had the perfect design paradigm, you see. simply the best one.
 
Dude, welome. And don't feel bad if you can't make a game instantly. I have been here for almost a year and a half and I have only just got the concept. So welcome.
 
Thanks for the welcomes everyone. Thanks for the suggestions, mawk. I'll look into those programs after work. I did a bit of c++ in college and high school, but I think my greatest accomplishment was writing a standard nim program. I'm getting just a little more ambitious with this one :tongue:
