Tomas' Artsy Endeavours

Hi {S_USERNAME}

I've been doing more stuff in Cinema 4d (while putting off other stuff mostly), and i thought i'd my stuff with with you.
I've been wanting to learn more about 3d modelling/animating since i need it to make a 3d game, and it's cool as hell.
Also some random art stuff, i'll try to keep this regularly updated.

I make most of these things in an ultra high res, but that isn't very suited for viewing on a forum.
I'll resize it for you guys (that's how i am) (i am like that) so you won't all have to buy bigger monitors..
Also you'll be able to find the big resolutions here (for whatever reason you'd want them).

click this link for high-res stuff!

just made this, together with a friend, messing around with hair materials in Cinema.
It isn't finished yet, the model needs some tweaking and a different light setup.

in case you didn't know, my logo is a triangle, here's a sweet rendition.
it's also my avatar on soundcloud.

this is a vector, i originally made it for my girlfriend, she likes to get roses.
there are some variations in the dropbox above

my logo, extruded out of glass.
It's pretty hard to properly portray 'glass' on such a background.
glass is glass because it reflects stuff, and if there isn't stuff to reflect then it's not really looking like glass
here's a spinning version:

Logo in some kind of black rock stuff.
I'm actually pretty proud of this, even though it's really easy to do.
look up a tutorial by greyscalegorilla, subject 'sub-polygon displacement'.
also look at the high res version of this, it's got loads of detail.

In the dropbox linked above you'll also find a sloppy contest entry for a design competition
the brief was to make something 'cool' that wasn't cool before
we thought dusters were pretty lame so we tried to make that cool
we didn't win but we only worked on it for one night so it wasn't anything serious anyway

that's it for today. stay tuned!

I think dusters are cool :((((((

Anyway, nice! I've been itching to learn more about 3D doodlin (3Doodlin) myself. My last experience with it was sometime in 1999 or 2000 and let me tell you, it was a horrendous chore to do anything. You literally had to type in points on a 3D plane (X.Y,Z) and intersect boundaries and lines by specific points ... Ugh god. Caused me to give up entirely it was so painful. It looks so much easier nowadays.

I particularly like your ROSE stuff, I am not sure if I commented on it when you showcased it before, but if I didn't, I meant to ;x because it's pretty nicely done :D

I really enjoy the animation. It doesn't look like much as a still, but as an animation, it's pretty sweet.

All I can seem to think of when I look at your isometric triangle logo is "delta". I learned the Greek and [some of the] Phoenician alphabets at an early age (I really liked learning about them ;x).
I know it's supposed to be the "A" in TOMAS but man all I can think of is either "D" or "Delta" or "Dalet". ... Well, Dalet is more equilateral. But Delta is totally isometric.

I guess that's not really a crit, since it's just a shape, and I'm probably in the minority on knowing ancient alphabets well enough to make the instant analogies.
But can't help but feel like there needs to be something ... more to it.

In any case, the rock formation version of it is sick as hell. Nearly looks like a real chunk of coal or something. Or a tar-black hunk of coral. IDK

we have these ugly ass dusters here that are really not cool:

anyway yeah 3d stuff has become less tedious, but it's still hard to control!
i mean it's easy to make random stuff look good but once you want something more, like animation or w/e you have to be able to control it properly
i mean i can make cool stuff with those hairs but idk wtf i'm doing.
if someone would ask me specific things to do that'd be loads harder.

the animation worked out pretty well yeah, in retrospect i should've left the particles out though, i added those in after effects but they don't really do it for me.

the A delta thing (▲) is still awesome though.
i use delta all the time for maths, every engineer may or may not draw that comparison.
though it'd be even cooler if i did that on purpose. I could make my signature be ▲T, or whatever.
A certain range of tomas.

;D

I think i'm going to experiment some more with the hairs.
they don't take that long to solve, and you can do quick and dirty stuff with those.

That's all very pretty Tomas but technically you still owe me a logo. :(

Would you mind eventually working on that? I still think I might release something on December (not right now since I'm pretty much studying and watching old TV shows 24 / 7).

hahaha I thought you meant dusters as in the type of old-west-style jacket.

using ▲T seems pretty cool. or ... T●M▲S. idk
Makes me wish my name were less lame. I've never been able to come up with a cool signature or emblem for it. :/
(of course that might stem from me hating my name in the 1st place, idk idk oh well lol)

man i really love the hair tools/materials in C4D.
it's so easy to tweak and so quick to render, even on low-spec laptops.

if you check out the big-res pic, you'll see that the hairs aren't perfectly smooth, they consist of segments
next time i'll tweak these I'll try to use more segments, see how that goes for render time.

hehe this is pretty cool
render time for this was about an hour
but i am going to do it again, with a rotating sphere, and some other variations
see if i can make it more abstract.. maybe even add audio
