This is a Cool Place

Hi, I'm Mystic Mage, but you can call me... well, mystic or mage or something.
I had the sudden revelation known as RPG Maker which somehow I knew little to nothing about despite how long the programs have been around. While looking for resources and anything of interest I happened upon this site, and I like what I see so I'll stick around here. I'm also registered on the Chaos Project website under the same screen name, but I have not been there long.

Ah, let's see, I've always loved playing video games, and I do hope to go into game art design eventually.
I love anything to do with inspiration and brainstorming like creating my own fantasy worlds, mythic stories, and original races/characters/etc. I have a digital tablet (Intuos 3) and I am getting better with digital artwork every day, but I have a long way to go. I have a DA account, but it has long been dormant. I will notify people when I update it and become active there again.

Hmm... I'm taking a liking to pixel art even though I've done next to nothing in it. With the help of some critiques from the members here I hope to become a decent pixel artist especially since I do plan on making an RMXP game. I have an extremely lofty goal for the game, but I will work with it for a while and figure out what I can actually accomplish. I'll try to be helpful to everyone else too despite how new I am to all of this.

I like tons of different music, types of art, some sports, movies, and all that, but just ask me if you're actually interested in knowing about all that. Same with any other details about myself.

As a final note, I am a straightforward person, who says what he thinks honestly both in face-to-face conversation as well as the internet, and I do not deal well with others that do not take me seriously or waste my time by trying to annoy me or insult me. I doubt there will be many like that here, but I am just noting this for future reference. I would like to know that there are decent people at Home Brew Games. Please don't let me down because the experiences I have on the internet sometimes make me feel sad for humanity.

MM, Welcome aboard. :scruff:

Fix yourself a sandwich & have a look around. (don't eat the Mayo, it's been there for years)

Nice to see another artist around here. HOpe to see some of your work.

I think you'll find we have the standard distribution (bell curve) of "hoopy froods" "pretty decent people" & "jack-asses"(ignore them)

Be Well

And this is a cool face.

Sup.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. :thumb:
@Brewmeister - Man that was some good Mayo. You have some more? Oh man, I need to sit down for a moment.
@Ceiling_Cat .... That is such a cool face indeed. Makes me wish I had a pipe. I don't smoke, but I'd have a pipe.

sup mystic mage? welcome to hbgames.org! ;o
btw that avatar is cool as hell did you draw it?
Yes, I drew that 3 years ago. He was a character I designed named Maur'whist. Glad you like him.

You're bundled up now but wait 'til you get older
But the meteorman begs to differ judging by the hole in the satellite picture. The ice we skate is gettin' pretty thin. The water's gettin' warm so we might as well swim. My world's on fire! How 'bout yours? That's the way I like it and I'll never get bored.

Hey, welcome to the site! :) Hope you stick around. I'll be happy to leave crits on your art. What kind of game do you want to make? You may want to consider making a short practice game first to get a handle on good design. Also, just out of curiosity, how'd you find the site?

Howdy! Be careful with setting lofty goals with hobbyist game making ... It usually ends in your being overwhelmed and overextended. Especially since you're the only one doing the art, scripting, etc. etc. We can help you out here, and definitely help with providing you SOME material, but too many people have been 100% burnt out on game-making because they want to make Chrono Trigger right out of the starting gate, without appreciating the 1000's of man-hours that would go into it.

My suggestion is to start small as you can, and work your way up! But maybe you'll have time to pull it off? ;)

In any case, welcome, and please don't be put off by the "inside humor" on the social boards :P

Thanks Maneo!

Thank you again for the solid critique Perihelion. I plan to stick around.
As for the game, it will be a fantasy RPG. I'm going for an original world with its own races, magics, and such but of course there will be a mix of many familiar elements from many fantasy games and stories. This is not because I can't think outside of the box. That is not the point of the game. The seed of this game concept is that the story has been something my cousins and I came up with over the years with our own takes on the fantasy genre. Specifically what we enjoyed the most. So there will be a few stereotypical elements but I will do my best to make them original in their own way.
As for the practice game there will be many I'm sure. I plan to take it all step by step.
As for finding this site... ah, hmm, I just specifically looked for RPG Maker forums for resources so that I could get some good ideas of what to make and where to start. I cannot remember exactly how I found HBG, but google helped a lot.

Thanks Venetia. I love the pixel lady in your avatar. Classy stuff!
I do have a lofty goal, but I will be practical with it. I will compromise and cut back what is needed, but I wanted to set a "best possible outcome" to look forward to and motivate me. I do not expect to reach this goal so much as just work toward it and hope for something even a fraction as good. I will be starting small, definitely. I'll slowly be putting together the small things to work toward my main goal.
Also, I am not alone. I have a good friend who will help me with the scripting, music, and he makes vector art which I can use for special effects for skills and magic as well as enhance the overall appearance of the game. He also has never worked on a game before so he's a beginner just like me, but he is an IT guy so the scripting will be something he will better understand. As for the vector art he has designed logos and wallpapers as well as website elements and graphics. I am hoping that with some aid from the forums you guys can fill any gaps my friend and I have trouble with.
Heh, as for inside humor and such, I am not put off easily. I just don't like people's attitudes on the internet sometimes. Specifically the ones that have nothing better to do but annoy others that are trying to get input or do something productive.

That sounds cool, Mage. Also, if you want to talk to a few of us in real-time, feel free to join us in the IRC channel. There's an IRC Chat link at the top of the page. You don't have to sign up or anything.
