"This is our world. You should understand it." he said to the girl. His mist-gray eyes, hidden behind the glare of his glasses, were peaceful. Looking upon those oily pupils, the girl thought, felt like staring at the Lorimaran lakes in the war broadcasts, the calm waters and the emerald world of trees and rolling hills surrounding them. The instructor's eyes echoed such a place. She wished she could jump into the world within those eyes, but always refrained from letting her inner longing become too obvious. Her parents had paid their hard-earned money to this man for his highly sought-after services. She could not afford to mess this up-- not if she wanted to pass the upcoming Shield Entry Exams.
"Our world?" she finally said. "Is it really our world Mr. Lidston? Does it belong to us?" she asked him, her voice filled with wonder.
Adrian smiled at the young girl. That welcoming, yet terribly rehearsed smile he gave to all of his students. She was sitting down in one of his newer chairs, with her back straight and her youthful hands laying open across the surface of the old desk. Very professional, he thought. He wondered if her parents had painstakingly taught her how to sit like that.
He leaned back in his wooden chair, crossing his long slender arms. "Of course it is. Despite this war, it is still very much our world. We live in it and we decide which path history takes," he stated matter-of-factually in his subtle Esperanzan-accent.
"But... do you think it will ever end? My father tells me that the war's been going on for a long time.
He says even my kids will be around to see it."
Adrian stood. He leaned over the desk, casting a slim shadow across it's surface. He adjusted the old pair of spectacles resting on the bridge of his nose.
"Everything ends," he said, his gaze never leaving her.
General Storyline
The general story takes place in a medieval/renaissance-era world where one vastly powerful empire has been
conquering all of the other countries of the planet. The oceanic empire of Dephrava is a great and technological beast that has been devouring the world's countries and assimilating their citizens for the past millenium. Dephrava's armies, wielding weapons powerful and unknown to most of the world, easily lays siege to whatever opposes them.
Across the ocean, The empire of Lorimaris, the world's largest and most ancient civilization, will not lay down their weapons so easily however. They are the only obstacle that keeps Dephrava from conquering all of the world. Despite the people of this empire enduring years of civil war, they greatly outnumber the Dephravan invaders, and will band together to fight for their survival.

The game is split into two different storylines. Each story is separated into different chapters, with
each ensuing chapter switching from one storyline to another.
Thales' Story
The first storyline, taking place in Lorimaris before the Dephravan invasion, follows the life of
a young boy named Thales Milhaven (pronounced "Talice"). Thales, born into House Milhaven, the empire's legendary
family of knights who lead the Empress Reinas Lunet's armies, is a nine-year old youth returning from three
years living in the capital's barracks. At his young age, he is a talented swordsman
who wields extraordinary skill with a blade. Like his ancestors before him, he is being molded from
childhood to become a great leader to the Empress' armies.
Thales however, prefers reading books to wielding swords. He is by nature a curious boy who
dreams of adventure and seeing the world. However, his name does not allow his dreams to take
flight, for his destiny, like all men of House Milhaven, is to live on the battlefield.
As Thales enters his teenage years, a great civil war between the lower class and the
nobility engulfs the Empire. Thales, now a full-fledged knight in the service of the Empress,
witnesses the cruelties of war for the first time in his life. And thus, a great battle wages within
him. Should he honor the oath his ancestors swore to the Empire and continue killing in the name
of an increasingly cruel regime? Or should he abandon the fate that his father and ancestors have born
down on his shoulders and fight against the empire which he has sworn to defend?

Thales Milhaven
Age: 9 years old at beginning of story.
Birthplace: Saint Belen, New Lorimaris
Thales is the first character the player controls in the game. The story finds him first as a child during a period of civil unrest within Lorimaris. He is the first born child of Alexander and Theresa Milhaven. Like the rest of the men in his family, he has started training for his future position as a knight in the service of Reinas Lunet, the Empress of Lorimaris. Thales, like his older half-brother Leigh, is a swordsman, and although incredibly young, has incredible skill with a blade. This is due in part to the efforts of his caretaker, Peter Fraust, a renowned swordsman who has taught Thales since he was seven years old. Despite his great skill, Thales finds not much use for it as he is a calm and gentle boy who would rather read a history book than wield his sword. This has earned him a reputation as a coward in the social hierarchy of the noble houses of New Lorimaris, who all wish to replace the Milhaven family as the commanders of the Empire's military.
http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd33 ... adshot.png[/img]
Theodore Milhaven
Age: 7 years old
Birthplace: Saint Belen, New Lorimaris
Theo is the youngest of the two children born to Alexander and Theresa Milhaven. He is a loving, affectionate boy who seems
to win over everyone he meets with his bright emerald eyes. Theo, being very young, does not know much about the world he lives
in. As far as he can tell, the only constants in the world are knights (like his father and older half-brother Leigh) and those who ignore the laws of the Empire and must in turn be punished. He wants nothing more in life than to please his father and mother, who both shower him with love and warmth.
Theo has just started his training in the military barracks of Saint Belem. He serves as a squire under Lady Isolde Tremaine, a valiant and decorated knight. He has chosen the spear as his weapon of choice, and already shows promising skill.
http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd33 ... normal.jpg[/img]
Isabel Mercer
Age: 11 years old
Birthplace: Moreau, Aternelle
Isabel, only daughter of Sir Samuel Mercer, is a young girl who befriends Thales and Theo when her father moves them to Saint Belen from the northern country of Aternelle. Already gifted in the use of a sword, she initially sees Thales as a fragile little boy who doesn't know the first thing about swordsmanship, but upon being defeated in a friendly duel, starts to take a quiet liking to him.
Isabel is very intelligent for her age and possesses a great knowledge of the outside world that Thales and Theo don't have. She has seen the suffering of the people within the Empire firsthand, and implores the two Milhaven brothers to open their eyes to see the bigger picture, so that they could both try to do something about it when they become older. Theo, already set in his ways, playfully dismisses her. Thales however, begins to adopt her point of view.
http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd33 ... miling.jpg[/img]
Peter Fraust
Age: Early thirties
Birthplace: Pavrat, Mein Telus
Peter Fraust is Thales' mentor, bodyguard and swordmaster. He is a carefree, loyal, yet unassuming man who, despite not being of
noble blood, is known throughout the Empire as a master swordsman. He is of the distant kingdom of Mein Telus, but moved
with his wife to St Belen after Alexander Milhaven offered him the job of being Thales' swordmaster/bodyguard.
http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd33 ... rtrait.png[/img]
Leigh Milhaven
Age: 22 in beginning of story
Birthplace: Odeus, Parisia
The first and only child born as a result of the short-lived love affair between Alexander Milhaven and the twin sister of the Empress of Lorimaris, Athelia Lunet. Leigh, an emotionally unstable young man with deep emerald eyes and pale-blonde hair, is the most feared individual throughout the lands of Lorimaris. Known throughout the Empire as the Demon of House Milhaven, he is a man who's skill with a blade is thought to be unequaled. Even his father, Alexander Milhaven, the legendary soldier responsible for helping the twin Lunet sisters in reuniting the shattered empire, fell against him in a ceremonial duel.
Despite Leigh's abilities in the arts of warfare, he has been deemed "unfit" for taking over
as champion and Lord General of the Lorimaran military by his father, who has publicly declared that the honor should instead fall to Thales, Leigh's talented yet reluctant young half-brother. Because of this, Leigh's relationship with his father has deteriorated into a seething hatred.
Despite his dark emotions toward his father, Leigh holds an unshakeable loyalty to his aunt, the
Empress Reinas Lunet. Serving at her side as Ascendant Knight, he is dispatched throughout the Empire to violently cut down those who dare stand against the Empress and her will.

Adrian's Story
The second storyline takes place many years into the future, during a time when Dephrava has all but
conquered the Empire of Lorimaris.
The Lorimaran people, previously weakened due to a bloody civil war that erupted between it's lower
class and nobility, are on the brink of total defeat. Famine and savagery have replaced
stability in what was once a living, thriving land. The will to fight the Dephravan oppressors
has all but died out as the Lorimaran Empress disappears along with her last remaining
army.
All hope seemed loss until... one day, something truly miraculous happened. Talk
of a massacre of thousands of Dephravan troops spread like wildfire throughout the imprisoned
cities of Lorimaris. Soon, the whispers of the people spoke of what caused
this event. This event, now known as the Calliston Massacre, was not caused by an opposing army.
But solely... by one man.
This mysterious individual, a man known only as The Oathbreaker, has inspired
the captive Lorimaran populace to once again embrace their hope.
Adrian Lidston, one of the Dephravan oppressors, is the second character the player will control. A newly appointed captain, Adrian is a man of few words who possesses incredible skill in the arts of war. He has been given command of a ragtag squad of young soldiers from Dephrava's lower sectors. Their mission... to journey throughout the deadened lands of Lorimaris and find the mysterious Oathbreaker.

Adrian Lidston
Age: Late Twenties
Birthplace: Esperanza (Dephravan Colony)
Found bloodied and clinging to life by a thread, he was the sole survivor of the Calliston massacre which claimed
the lives of four thousand Dephravan soldiers. Serving the Dephravan Admiralty for eight valiant years,
he is quickly climbing the ranks of the Expeditionary Army, and is said to be the first
non-native Dephravan to join the Admiralty's ranks, a feat which most see as an insult to the
order's integrity.
Adrian is said to be unkillable. He is a silent, calculating man who views duty above all else.
He has been chosen by the Admiralty to lead what most consider is a suicide mission to find
and apprehend the man known as The Oathbreaker.
http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd33 ... normal.jpg[/img]
Wesley Laudlin
Age: Mid Twenties
Birthplace: Cercei Sector (The Depths of Dephrava)
Wesley Laudlin is a talented young riflemen in Adrian Lidston's squad.
He is known, like all others who hail from the lower-class immigrant/slave Depths
region, as a sector-rat. Unlike most who hail from The Depths however,
Wesley possesses an innate understanding of the outside world.
He understands his role as a soldier, but knows the value of human life, and
respects the Lorimaran people for never losing their hope in the face
of enslavement.
Wesley has served with Adrian for the past three years. He is extremely
loyal to Adrian and would follow him no matter the danger.

Mathilde Dichter
Age: Late Teens
Birthplace: Hydra Sector (The Depths of Dephrava)
Mathilde is a young woman who is the newest addition to Adrian's squad.
She is a newly christened member of the Lumiere Sect, a subdivision of the Admiralty which infuses it's
members with the experimental ability to control light and wield it as a weapon. Learning how
to control this incredible power came with a heavy price, as an accident during her training destroyed her
left eye.
Despite Mathilde's power, this is her first year in Lorimaris, and her inexperience is evident.
She is engaged to a young man in the Expeditionary Army, and is haunted by the fact that
she might not return from the dangerous mission Adrian's squad has been tasked with.

DEMO LINK
http://www.mediafire.com/file/2zdjyyyvz ... 0v%201.exe
This is a pretty short 10-minute teaser demo. I was inspired to create it after playing The Cry of the Fox demo. There are a few technical errors that I know of, and much of the writing isn't final.
Notes:
- There are no battles. It's more an introduction to the characters/storyline more than anything.
- I'm aware that the two opening images are pretty rough looking. These are place-holders and will be changed once i find something better to use.
If you see anything that needs work, please point it out.
Demo Credits
-Kylock for light effects.
Music used:
"Farewell", "Elegy For Dunkirk" from the Atonement score by Dario Marionelli
"The Last Man", "Together We Will Live Forever" from The Fountain score by Clint Mansell.
"Procrastination" from the Big-O score by Toshihiko Sahashi.
If you see any charsets that you or anyone else designed, please inform me and I'll put your name/the name of it's creator up here.
That's about it. Some feedback would be awesome guys.

A short history of the Lorimaris Empire.
Lorimaris is the present incarnation of the oldest civilization in human history. The Empire Of Lorimaris is a twenty two year old collective of loosely united nations encompassing the continent of Terragama, the largest known landmass in the known world. A total of nine kingdoms make up the Empire, with the city of Saint Belen acting as the Empire's capital.
Lorimaris was founded by the Crimson Empress, Reinas Lunet. Reinas, along with her twin sister, Athelia, were the sole heirs to House Lunet, an ancient line of emperors who have historically ruled over Lorimaris for thousands of years. Following the collapse of Old Lorimaris (the first empire erected by humanity) due to a mysterious attack by the foreign nation of Dephrava and then by the people's anger over the Lunet family's refusal to allow the populace to develop weapons to counter their attackers with (due to the practices of the traditional religion of Lorimaris), the kingdoms of Terragama were plunged into two chaotic centuries of war and bloodshed. The Terragaman kingdoms were without leader and doctrine, and war raged over petty territorial disputes and the right to rule the rest. Many claimed the throne but none had the power to keep order for long. Kings would arise and would in turn be overthrown. This was the way of things for two centuries-- until two young girls appeared.
The two sisters, both only sixteen years of age, claimed to be the sole heirs of House Lunet, a name that had come to be hated by the Terragaman people due to how the Lunet family had been forcing the worship of Old Lorimaris' ancient religion on the populace long after the views of the people had changed. They demanded the nine kingdoms to accept them as their new rulers, for they believed that Terragama and all of it's people were only for House Lunet to rule. The kingdoms disagreed, and defied their would-be conquerors. They ignored the Lunet heirs for two years and continued their squabbling. On the eve of the Lunet sisters' 18th birthday, the sisters amassed a mysterious legion of soldiers to fight for them. Leading this army was Alexander Milhaven, the modern-day patriarch of the long-dormant Milhaven Line. House Milhaven were a legendary family of soldiers and a feared sight on any battlefield. They served House Lunet as their champions of war, swearing an unbreakable oath dating back thousands of years. They had been dormant for the past two hundred years, as their oath did not allow them to serve any of the false non-Lunet kings who vied for control over Terragama.
The Lunet Army was comprised mostly of foreign soldiers who had been promised Terragaman land in exchange for their services. This legion of warriors, led by a Milhaven, easily overtook the unorganized kingdoms of Terragama, killing all who did not swear fealty to the Lunet sisters. Within a year, the rebellion had been put to an end, and a new empire was founded. Despite this, the people of Terragama still seethed with hatred, and whispers of further violence sounded across the new Empire of Lorimaris.
