The Space Invaders Opera (Space Invaders RPG)

This is my current project. It's in early stages of development, but so I'll be releasing the full game by the end of February.

The Space Invaders Opera

The Space Invaders Opera is a 'fan' reimagining of the Space Invaders franchise. You control an experienced soldier who, piloting with a newly-invented cannon, is sent into space to defeat the evil Space Invaders and save the solar system. As the title suggests, there will be a 'narrative-spin' on this game, inspired by various elements of the classic arcade game, and, well, space operas. It's an RPG with a mix of traditional Dragon Quest style battles, and a ship battle system in which the Space Invaders bunker plays a bigger role. There are 'dungeons' in this game, but not in a traditional sense.

You choose what planet you want to save from the solar system map, upon which the battle phase starts. Once you defeat the Invaders, you fly into their UFO to stop them from relaunching another attack. Each UFO is themed, and will make you see the Space Invaders in ways you've never seen before. At the end of the UFO phase, you face a boss.

The game also has an emphasis on 'set pieces' as opposed to encouraging explanation. No UFO dungeon is similar to the last. The game's linear, and fairly short, but there are a lot of extras, and the outcome at the end determines how you play through.

Notes:

- I'm having fun with this project, because it's challenging working under so many constraints. Has allowed my
creativity to flourish. The biggest challenge is making sure my various ideas are executed properly!
- The game should be out by the end of February (I started it for a certain contest on GW)
handful of dungeons, and would only take the player around four hours to complete. I'm working on it,
although I'm running into some problems with resolution, and it may take a while to make sure that the game's
polished.
- I'm making it in VX.

Thanks for reading.

Wow, this looks super rad. The retro-quirky atmosphere is a great touch. One question though, which of the screens depicts the turn based battles? Im jw so I can get a better grasp on it.

Looks cool though! Hurry and release a demo

could be cool. what kind of services does the red spider from venus offer? is this mostly just ruby code or actual event maps too?

Thanks =)

I won't say yet, but every planet you save has an alien that's willing to offer their services. Each 'service' is, well, an actual 'service', and not a reward like a super-powered item. One of the aliens offers bunker upgrades. The other aliens offer more 'unique' services. The game has event maps =P

Cheesasaurus:
The turn-based battles aren't on there yet. Originally, they were VX DBS style, but I'm currently trying to make them more interesting. They still may have that classic Dragon Quest appearance, as I think it goes well with the retro style.

HA. you are very very cool, i didn't even read anything on this page and i fucking love this. gg

Ditto. Sorta. I *did* read it. The fact that you can do this illustrates quite poignantly how awesome your awesome parameters are off the awesome charts.

Also, thank you. Thank you for being awesome.

PS: I eagerly await a "Hunt the Wumpus" RPG.
