Intro Stuff-

Hello, my name is Alex898. I don't really post here or on any other rpg maker websites that much so here is a little background information. Way back in the day I was an active member of the community of rpg maker websites Dark Dominion and RMDB under the username TSROCKS, neither of which are still active. I made an rpg maker 2000 games about 6 years ago but ended up getting bored with the program and pretty much left the rpg maker community. I heard about XP roughly 2 years ago and it sounded good so I saddled up and got it. I tend to go off and on working on projects then stopping when I get bored and then recontinueing them.

My "dream" so to speak in life is to be a writer for movies and TV shows because I love writing complex plots. That is what got me interested with the program because it allows me to be able to bring the ideas I have floating around in my head to life. The plot of The Red Moon has been on my mind since the days of Soul Calibur 3 when I came up with the idea from playing it. My first attempt at making the game came out pretty bad so I ended up giving it up. Summer 2008 I decided to give it another go and began working on a new version of The Red Moon. Currently, the game is roughly 4.5 hours long; one of my friends has been beta testing it for me. The demo version I am releasing is about a month or two old and should take between 1-2 hours to complete.

Although I have experience with the RPG Maker programs in the past, RGSS is basically gibberish to me, so I haven’t been able to create any fancy scripts for my games. I have got some scripts off the internet to use for my game that I feel enhance it such as ccoa’s UMS, but I am still using the DBS because trying to use a custom system would be too complicated for me, especially with Fomar's large party script which i am using. I’m hoping the engaging storyline will hook players more so than the gameplay, although I have included a few mini games such as stealth segments in which you have to sneak past enemies as opposed to battle them(And again, these were made with events as opposed to RGSS).

Storyline:

The Red Moon takes place on a fairly large continent that is separated into three nations. The first nation is Reins, which is a mix of European and Russian culture. The second is Balkia, a middle eastern nation and the final nation is the Nobungian Union, which is a nation of tribes similar to Mongolians that have joined together to form their union. Reins and Balkia have been at war for longer than anyone can remember at this point, and the end doesn’t seem to be in sight. No one really knows what they are fighting for; it seems that the hatred between the two nations is the sole reason war is still going on. As Reins and Balkia tear each other apart, the Nobungian Union watches.

A young soldier named Lucian returns home after being wounded by a catapult during a battle. Things very quickly fall apart for him: His lover is kidnapped by a mysterious man named Karoes who frames her father, Darius, for his crimes. The man has infiltrated their countries government and soon, Lucian himself becomes a fugitive against the nation he has fought for. Darius tasks Lucian to track down a girl named Sirena and protect her from this man, although why he doesn’t say. This chain of events leads to Lucian having to team up with unlikely friends and enemies from all three nations to defeat the sinister plot of their enemies. But things aren’t always what they seem, and there will be many plot twists throughout the game.

Characters (Long List):

Lucian – Lucian is the main protagonist of the game. He is a Reinian Soldier whose life falls apart when he returns home from battle. He is tasked with protected a priestess named Sirena as well as trying to find his girlfriend Kira and stop the mysterious villain Karoes. He isn’t a chosen one nor is he an otherworldly entity who has to save the world; he is simply an unlucky soldier who has this all thrust upon him.

Sirena – Sirena is a young girl who is currently working as an apprentice to the priest Silas. Her parents died when she was an infant and she was adopted by Silas, who raised her and taught her holy magic such as healing. Due to this, she was very sheltered and is a very shy girl.

Erik – Erik is a Balkian bandit who resides in the badlands that separate Reins and Balkia. He robs anyone who travels through what he refers to as “his domainâ€

Mapping needs a heck of a lot of work.  There's a bunch of projects out there that you can use as reference.

And, from the storyline; Lucian was "wounded" by a "catapult"? O_O . . . How'd that happen? It doesn't seem logical that someone would still be walking around after taking a hit from a rock hurled by a giant medieval machine.

Also, to me, "his girlfriend" doesn't really seem to fit. Try "The woman he loves". Seems a bit more suitable in my opinion.

Yeah, that's how shes referred to in the game. I threw the bios together pretty quickly, i'll probably expand on them and make them longer and more fitting for the time period when i have the chance.

As for the catapult thing: Maybe wounded isn't the right word <_< He was near where the rock landed and got sent flying but survived.

I'll work on fixing the maps up too

Well it all looks pretty good except for a few key things:

1. Your mapping ranges from pretty decent to pretty bad.  Check out some tutorials.  Google is your friend.

2. The battle system.  The default system is just...not fun.  Especially when you didn't even add hp/mp bars =/  Adding Hp/Mp bars makes it look a lot nicer, first off.  As long as you execute right, it's fine, but I still don't like the default battle system :P

Also, how long is it?  Just wondering before I decide to download it.

Yeah, I went through and replayed the beggining and the maps were pretty crappy near the beggining. I'm going to go back and redesign most of the early maps.

I really want to get a decent battle script but I'm not sure how well one would work with the large party script im using. I'll look into getting some hp/sp bars though.

The demo is abour 1-2 hours long. With the work i have done the game is between 5-7 hours long (5 hours for me and 7 hours for my tester) and I am about 35% done with the complete game.

ye it seems you where like me at the start lazy so maps where crap then you decided to work on it some more so the maps started changing happened to me

Did you not realize how old this topic is? ~ Asch
