The New Xbox Experience (NXE) is LIVE!

If you've got a 360 and have had it online for the past couple of months you've probably heard about this. Microsoft has drastically redesigned their console GUI blade system to something sort of like the Wii channel but better visually (instead of channels laid out they're layered and presented in a much more interesting way.)

The NXE will also allow new little chibi versions of yourself, which while it's easy to point and go "OMG Miis!!" they're actually a lot more detailed, controllable and can be customized in more ways than the Miis can. Though I like the openness of the Mii system which allows more artistic creativity, my Xbox avatar on the other hand actually looks like me, and not a Duplo block caricature.

Thirdly, (and a lot more FREKKIN AWESOMELY) you can stream Netflix movies for free (so long as you have an Xbox gold account.) Y'know, that $15 a month fee PS3 players always "BAAWWW" over? Well, not only do you get access to the superior online service, but now you get FREE FUCKING MOVIES!! Hear that cheap assholes? Free-movies-from-Netflix. I hear the selection isn't as OMG HUGE as Netflix entire library, but they've got more than you could ever need on there right now, and they're adding more movies all the time, so... No more using the service fee as an excuse.

Oh yeah, and you can also go back to the old format if you want!

And you can still get on the network for free if you don't want to pay the $15 a month thing!

I've got a 360 I haven't been using much for study reasons (and the fact that I don't have any games of my own and have to borrow from other people) but this is telling me I should haul it up to edmonton during christmas break for all this. I know a lot of people are going to go 'EY WII RIPOOF HEA'! but right now it looks like they've done a better job of it (as far as I'm concerned at least) than the wii did.

how so? NXE is buggy. it Freezes all the time when i'm in the friend list. the new format looks like the PS3 XMB but sideways and I can't find that free movies anywere!

edit: okay... the netflix isnt here in canada also... its not free you have to pay 9 bucks a month

I haven't had any problems, and I like the new look.  Its also nice how a more refined version of the old Blade system is accessible by pushing the xbox guide button.  Another nice feature is the abbility to install an entire game to the hard drive.

I've been on it all day watching my free Netflix movies. The avatars are actually pretty fun to toy around with and surprisingly a nice feature. The new style is amazing as well. Overall it was a good idea, good job Microsoft! The only problem and I don't know if it's just me but none of my marketplaces can load info and give me error messages. Any one else with this problem?

Boo-hoo, most people already have an account. You can also use it with Netflix's free trial.
Plus you don't think Asch was thinking about getting a job to be able to afford Netflix?
Or maybe that Asch was talking about something else?

Anyway, I found something funny you can do to the avatars.

If you mess around with the right stick you can control the angle of your avatar's head. Sometimes you can get their heads to smack against the TV screen, and sometimes they get dizzy.

That's badass, I just picked up a 360 and I'm still working on Fallout 3 but it's good to know there's something coming down the pipes that will make me not regret the 450 bucks I spent in a couple weeks or so when I'm done with the game
