The Lumber Cartel, "The Simplicities of Man" (crit this shit)

hey hey i've been working on an album for like a year and a half now and i figure it is time for a few MASS CRITS. a few things:

  • • it's all midi for the time being since i write in guitar pro. i supply gp4 tabs for anyone with gp4 who wants to look in-depth at tunez.
    • i'm dumb so two of the songs don't have bass (unintentionally). i'll try to do bass for them pretty soon and reupload.
    • i've tried to make them the best damn midis they can be, but i'm not god - i can't do the cool atmospheric effects i'd like to do during some parts. anything that seems long and droney will probably have lots of layered things in a final recording (of note: the choir in Inbound).
    • some of the songs and parts are heavily dependent on the lyrics and seem a bit repetitive and boring without them. i'm not a huge fan of VOCAL MELODY TRANSCRIPTION but just imagine vocals there (i'm not posting them yet since i'm still trying to finalize most of them).

and now...

1) Lune (1:58) mid | gp4
2) The Dance (4:55) mid | gp4
3) Photograph (8:53) mid | gp4
4) Lockgroove (4:29) mid | gp4
5) The Painter (6:43) mid | gp4
6) Soleil (0:54) mid | gp4
7) Not Quite As I'd Imagined (9:01) mid | gp4
8) Inbound (7:31) mid | gp4
9) Equilibrium (2:37) mid | gp4
10) Eternal September (unfinished)
11) The Simplicities of Man (7:16) mid | gp4
12) Lune (5:35) mid | gp4

I will definitely listen to this later, Tel. My speakers are shot so after I buy some new ones today ill give you some feedback.

I see you like to use a lot of uncommon time, which is awesome of course!  Really good for MIDIs, I'd shit myself to hear them as live instruments.  Awesome stuff, now all I'd like to hear is Eternal September to top it off.

Ok I listened to it all and...

Lune- I like the opening and the use of 3 on 2 rhythm...Its nice. A very relaxing sort of tune, nevertheless enjoyable.

The Dance- The percussion makes the piece move fluently. I wish there was a little more bass, however. The melody is simplistic enough but works great.

Photgraph- I like this one alot, even with the over use of repetition. The theme is catchy and the percussion heavily exxaggerates it. When the guitar melody comes in it really gets good. The sixtenth notes I could have done without, but it still works. So far I think this is the best one.

Lockgroove- The monophonic parts in this are badass.

The painter- I like how it started but then I got somewhat bored with the plucked string melody. Ill listen again later and my opinion will prolly change.

So yeah, ill comment on the rest of your shit later, but so far I like it alot.

I won't have time to listen to all at once, but I'll tell you what I think of them as I go.

First, Lune:
I definitely like the relaxing, laid-back feel of it. The Melodies are very nice. The only suggestion I have is, if possible, it would be nice to have better quality instruments. I know these are midis so they can't be the best quality, but you might want to consider re-making them in another program later. If this song in particular had better instruments, I might actually add it to the songs I usually listen to (which has never included a song made by an indie before :) )

Photograph is awesome, but The Painter makes me feel cool inside.  I'm going to play some of these on guitar if you don't mind that I load up the ol' guitar pro and view the tabs.
