the inexplicable Broken Saints effect(wtf)

Some of you may know of Broken Saints. Its a so-so overly melancholy flash comic that finished up afew years ago. It was basically subpar comic art with flash transitions and Boards of Canada-esc(spacey ambience) soundtrack, and it was availible free online. I think it finished a little while after I finished highschool(3 years ago).
SOMEHOW this free flash show made by a small group of people is now being made into a next gen game.

Which brings me to the topic at hand.
Videogaming is bigger than ever, and there's a weird balance. The balance is finding things people like because they're ironclad marketable, but at the same time staying fresh enough to set it apart. Just like Hollywood, gaming has generally run out of ideas and they're looking all over the place for concepts to use. So is this a good dynamic or a bad one? Are publishers going to look for things that are different for the sake of different to set themselves apart regaurdless of whether its different in a good way? Is this a good sign for novice storytellers, that gaming is looking outside the box at comics and flash series for "fresh" ideas? Or is this a trend that will die if/when afew games based off such things bomb? Discuss.

as a game, i think it'd be crap to be honest.... it doesnt appear to be meant for a next gen game, and i dont really count xcrap 360 as next gen, seing it SUCKS... so its kind of in between, i think that game wont make it to far....

That looks absolutely horrible. So will the next games that come out that try to be original. Of course there's a borderline between original and stupid, but any scenario left is stupid, which is why wasn't used. Writers are pretty much forced to drink the last glass of milk before the carton is empty, so to speak. Everything good is used, so might as well do everything over again for the sake of good games.

Seriously, if you think if something that isn't completely original will be the worst game ever, you're wrong. We can recycle old ideas.

I think they think enough people think that(does that make sense?).
And if they're right, it doesnt matter that something can be fun and fresh without being completely abstract and different for the sake of.

There will always be bad games coming out. And you never know. A subpar comic may actually make a decent game.......awww, who am I kidding. By the time I'm 28 there's gonna be no more gaming market and I'm going to end up homeless(I'm going into game design) :(

It really doesn't, dude.
You didnt understand what I said "dude", leave the thread with your vague bs.

Bigkev- I doubt that. Hollywood has been out of ideas for years but it didnt kill the market.
