The HKCP Team is hosting a CONTEST!

Do you sometimes wish you could be a part of the HKCP Team? Do you want to help out the HKCP Project, but you can't figure out what to contribute? Do you have only limited art skills, but want to help? Do you have tons of art skills, but no motivation?

This contest is right up your alley!

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/HKCP/Graphics/DivLine.png[/img]

WHAT IS THIS CONTEST?

We're looking for ANYTHING HK-related. And I mean, ANYTHING, as long as it looks good.

When you submit something, you get a certain number of points. The points add up. At the end of each month, for 3 months, we'll tally up the points and give prizes to the lucky winners!

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/HKCP/Graphics/DivLine.png[/img]

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

Here are the things we're looking for, and how many points you can get for them:

REMEMBER: THEY MUST BE OF APPROVED HKCP QUALITY!

  • Small edits & recolors (of anything): 1 point each image.
  • Palettes (with examples of them in use): 1 point each color array.
  • Pre-made HKCP sprites, using HKCP materials (must look good & be finished): 2 points
  • Large edits/recolors of pre-existing HKCP materials: 3 points each image.
  • Brand new Shirts, Pants, Shoes, or Gloves: 3 points each unique image. (recolors: 1pt each)
  • Brand new Hair, Faces, Accessories: 4 points each unique image. (recolors: 1pt each)
  • Tileset Pieces: 3 points for every 32x32pixel square in size.
  • Template Poses: 5 points per frame
  • Anthromorph Templates: 10 points
  • Animal character sets (only full 4x4 sprites accepted): 15 points (up to 85 pixels tall)
  • Large Animal Character Sets (only full 4x4 sprites accepted): 20 points (85+ pixels tall)

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?

Start a workshop in Resource Analysis. Make it named, "[Your name here]'s HKCP Contest Workshop". Label it with the http://www.rmxp.org/forums/Themes/rmxp/ ... t/hkcp.gif[/img] label.

Post your work there, WIPs, whatever. The HKCP Team will drop by and offer pointers. YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO IGNORE THEM! The important thing about this contest is that your work will improve and it will meet the rigorous HKCP standards! Even recolors and sprite assemblies are required to go through a revision phase.

When an HKCP member tells you that a piece is good enough to submit, PM it to Venetia. She'll upload it to the gallery, include you in the HKCP Team, and give you points on the ScoreBoard (next post)!

WHAT ARE THE PRIZES?

The prizes will be handed out on a bell curve, based on whoever accrues the most points. However the prizes will be handed out at the end of each month, for 3 whole months! So you have PLENTY of time to post your work, improve, and join in! You also may have the option to switch out your prize for another prize.

Here's what you can win:

- Becoming an HKCP team member (automatic upon 1st entry, however you can't access the HKCP Team Subforum until you're a Neophyte or higher)
- Paid sponsorships (or $15 prizes to people who're already sponsors)
- Paid private subforums
- Advertising on the HKCP Gallery (it actually gets a decent amount of traffic believe it or not)
- The option of Logo Design, Character Design, or "Fanart" to be done by Venetia and/or Coyotecraft
- Custom sprites or tileset pieces of your choosing, done by an HKCP Team Member

This list may be added to, so be on the lookout!
If you would like to contribute money to the project, please PM Venetia. All proceeds will either be handed out as prizes to winners, or donated to the site. Donations of more than $15 will qualify you to become a Sponsor on the forum, and $30 will buy you a private subforum, should you choose to have one.

FAQ

- Do I really need to make a thread for revisions? My work is already great/My work is very simple!
YES! No items will be accepted unless you open a critique thread (mentioned above).

- Can I post my WIPS here or in the HKCP Announcements Thread?
NO! Please use your own HKCP Contest Workshop.

- Why won't you accept any of my work?
It must meet HKCP standards. Don't worry, if you follow peoples' advice, your work can only improve!

- How can I help outside of entering the contest?
You can donate money to the cause, or simply plug a userbar (on the Announcements Thread) in your signature.
To donate money, please PM Venetia for details.

- Does it have to be brand new work, or can I submit this old thing I was working on?
Anything counts, as long as it meets HKCP standards, and it is not currently a part of the HKCP Gallery.

- What if I'm already on the HKCP Team?/Who are the judges?
Anyone besides the current Elites team can be included in the contest. The current Elites are the judging panel, so we can make submissions, but cannot win anything. That panel includes Venetia, ShowKaizer, Cerulean Skye, Gratheo, Britchik, KazeN, Fomar0153, and Nphyx.

- How do you want the graphics? Already pasted on a template or something?
Submit any HKCP pieces as standalone graphics, with skin shading on it, but not pasted on a template. PNGs ONLY!
Example: http://www.pixelcocktail.com/HKCP/Galle ... enetia.png

- What about submitting RTP Graphics or ripped graphics?
RIPPED GRAPHICS AND RTP GRAPHICS (unless they have been changed significantly) ARE NOT ALLOWED! We don't want to have to credit ANYONE but you and the HKCP team.

- What about using something by someone on the forum (like a recolor of something they did), but who is not on the HKCP team?
You can only submit something someone other than you has done if you credit them and forward me a copy of their written consent.

- What about recoloring/editing pre-existing HKCP materials?
Yes, that is acceptable. See the point tallies above to see what it'd earn. Don't forget to credit whomever made it.

- How do these things need to look? What style am I shooting for?
There's no set style, however you should shoot for your work to look like the stuff in the HKCP Gallery. That means no black outlines or outrageous color palettes, and no very cartoony, simple shading. It's not terribly hard so long as you work with their work as a reference, and follow their critiques in your Contest critique thread.

- I submitted a tileset piece but I only got partial credit.
You get 3pts for every 32x32 pixel square, but for large pieces where some squares are only partially filled (i.e. half the square or less), you only get 1pt per square. Otherwise, people would just be placing everything off-center to get more points.

I'll add more questions here as they arise.

Good luck, everyone!!!

SCOREBOARD

The winners for August were Berserker, with 77pts and Deebs, with 35!
The winners for September were The Panda, with 20pts, and Substancialicious, with 4!

Here are the current point tallies for SEPTEMBER, 2008:

____________________________________________

Substancialicious                           4
The Panda                                  20

Well, there are more prizes and time involved, and it should be considerably easier to enter if you're only doing recolors/sprite assemblies. So yes, hopefully, it will go better :)

Now this is something I like. You will surely see me making a huge update of resources soon enough :D
Does work which is old but not submitted to HKCP still count? Or is it just sprites from here on?
Because I have half a tileset done.

EDIT- Also when we do characters, you want us to crop each item and place in its own template?
so each template wouldj sut have gloves, shirt etc?

Anything counts, if it's old or new. Doesn't matter. Just so long as it's never been in the HKCP Gallery, it counts.
(Also, the current Elites in the HKCP are welcome to participate but we're not really up for any prizes sorry guys , we're the judges, heh)

I would prefer it if it were not pre-pasted onto a template, because I'd just crop off the template, anyway. Leave the skin shading pixels on there, though. Single items only, not compilations, so people can mix and match. It has to work as if it's the only item of clothing. Like this:

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/HKCP/Galle ... enetia.png[/img]

Use any template you want (male, female, teen, child, whatever), but if it's a part of SK's revised templates, use one of those.

:)

I think I'll try my hand at this.  I'm not great at creating my own stuff, but I can certainly do recolors.  I'm not going to make a promise because I'm really busy with projects and stuff, but I'll try to squeeze it in somewhere. :thumb:

Hm... may try to participate after all recolors aren't to difficult. And I have a tileset that I started a while ago still lying around so I may try to finish this.

So, lets go, everyone!

I'm definatly in for this. All my other projects will have to be put on temporary hold. I may not be the best spriter, but I'm willing to have a go.

EDIT: I've just got one question. When will the judges come and look at our workshops? Is there a set date when they will check everyones topics, or will they just pop in now and then?

They'll just pop in now and then as time goes by. Assume that any HKCP member who comments is a judge, not just the Elites, though. Because we'll probably just agree with whatever the HKCP member has to say about the work.

My only real window to comment on things is about 7pm-9pm EST M-F so whenever you see me, it'll be during that window. That's because I have to be at work all day and such, and during work, I can't see images hosted on places like photobucket or tinypic or whatever (since those sites are blocked). Everyone has their own little availability windows so I can't really cement a set schedule there. We're busy people ;)

By the way, all the points for August will be tallied up around Aug 31st. I'll set a definite date when I know my schedule for that week. :)

Update:

Deebs has acquired the following points!
- 1 anthro template: 10pts
- 1 large recolor: 3pts
- 1 face: 4pts
- 1 accessory (though I'd consider it more like "pants"): 3pts
Total: 20pts!

Berserker is right about to submit a bunch of stuff, too!

Get workin', guys!

Update!

Berserker has added the following to the gallery!
- Belt (accessory) - 4pts
- 4 recolors of belt - 4pts
- New Hair - 4pts
- 3 recolors of hair - 3pts
Total: 15pts!

Also please note that all contest entrants will be inducted into the HKCP Team at the end of the month :)

Update!

Deebs has acquired the following points!
- 1 original hair file: 4pts
- 11 hair recolors: 11pts
Total: 15pts!

There are still TONS of points to win, it's really anyone's game still!

Remember, even though recolors and small edits are only 1 point each, they can really add up!

Also, did you know that we give 4 points for every tileset square??? If you did a tree, or a roof, that'd be an instant approx. 64-72 points!!!

Sure, they take a while, but you'd have to do 5+ dozen recolors for that many points!

You're all really improving, I mean it! Even if you don't win in August, I'm seeing some real marked improvement and skills-honing here, I'm truly impressed!

Keep at it guys! August may be half over, but this contest isn't even CLOSE to finished :D
