The Conduit

I took a look at a game I saw on IGN and read on what they had to say about this game (anyone know how to put a hyperlink into the name?), The Conduit. I do have to agree with them about 3rd party developers being lazy and making pathetic and horrible games for the Wii/DS...
http://wii.ign.com/articles/867/867498p1.html
So this developer, High Voltage Software (a 3rd party developer, obviously...) decides to make a game for a Wii...and this could probably be the best 3rd party game for the Wii yet. I don't know much about the game yet, but The Conduit is a FPS set in the present time (I'm guessing its like Half-Life, lol). They say the control scheme was inspired by Heroes 2 and MP3: Corruption, and you will be able to change settings like you can in Corruption. So it looks like they took care of the gameplay part of the game, and judging by the screenshots I've seen (I'm on dial-up, and I'm attempting to load up the video)...the graphics look awesome.
EDIT: .......Weird, it wouldn't let me type anymore...>_>
....ANYways High Voltage is using a game engine (correct me if I get the name wrong) called Quantum3. The engine REALLY pushes the Wii's capabilities to the point where it doesn't look like a Wii game at all, lol. They hope to make this game look like a 360 game and I'm going to have to try this game out. I hope 3rd parties will stop making crappy games and start making games like this one.

My browser is acting weird, so I'll post the link that takes you to a gameplay video in a minute.

I think it's pretty sad when your tech demo showcases technology that was OLD in 2005 but such is the price you pay for working on dated equipment.

I think it looks pretty uninteresting but I hope it does well enough to garner some attention because as it is the Wii is pretty unappealing to anyone that doesn't like Nintendo games (I.E. me).  I actually laughed for 10 minutes when I realized that I had 3x more Wii-ware/Virtual Console games than actual distributed Wii games.  This thing is worse than the PSP when it comes to being an EMULATION MACHINE instead of a fully fledged console.

Well if it's anything like Half Life or MP3 then I'm in.

My internet is too slow to check out screens or videos of it, but from what you said I'll probably like it ^_^.

As great as it looks, if it doesn't use the Wii Zapper, I'm not going to give this a second look. Generic FPSes need a selling point, and on-par (to the 360 and PS3) graphics just won't cut it.

Well IGN released 1, that's right...ONE new pic, but its a huge one and it basically tells you the story, characters/enemies, and the weapons. These human zombies enemies somehow remind me of the combine soldiers and the Drudge mites look like Corruption-styled Space Pirates...so there you have it, it's going to be something like Half-Life and MP3. :p

(actually the video of the trailer showed a big enemy that reminded me of Metroid Prime also, you know, the boss...)

The Wii has ONE GOOD FPS (metroid prime 3 :3) and while it's one of the best ever made we desperately need another.

Let's hope this is the beginning.

I don't like console shooters much, but Metroid for the Wii was very playable. The Wiimote is a decent substitute for the mouse. So I could see myself playing this :)

Is it just me or does the graphics quality look a lot like Halo 2? Like, it looks good, but good for like 3 years ago?

Graphics don't really matter if it's fun, though.

It's about time, is all I have to say.  I'm tired of the "kiddie" label Nintendo gets consistently.  I'm so glad a developer finally has the business sense to realize that there ARE hardcore gamers who like the Wii and are willing to buy deep, highly produced games.

As for the game itself... i'll be the first to say that the hype over FPS is a bit overrated, but if that's what it takes for developers to look at the Wii seriously, I'll by 17 copies of the freakin game myself.

...not really, but you get the point.

IGN has just posted new footage of this game in action, as well as an interview with one of the people working on the game. The video is here. I'm going to hold my breath on this one, but it looks pretty good so far. I have been keeping my eye on this. Hopefully, it turns out to be very good.

I love you for saying that.

The game itself reminds me a lot of F.E.A.R., which wasn't a bad game, to be sure. At the very least, it looks like it should be decent. I don't know how much more room for innovation there is in the FPS genre, however. That puzzle-solver thing looked neat, however.

I second the metroid comment. It was overwhelming. Anyways, I hope they nail online. Just make it fun. Make it addicting. That's all I ask.

This will be better than Metroid Prime 3, and plus, we'll have an online playing system like in Halo 3. Add those things to 360's graphics and voila, you've got the best FPS of the year!

What the? Online system like Halo 3? Link please? 360 graphics? Depends what you're playing. Only licensed movie games look worse on the 360.

On an optimistic note, it does look pretty good for a Wii game. Like I said before, I'm hoping I'm wrong about everything I've said. Just so I can get a good shooter on this system. Seems like only 360 gets them.

I was just pointing out his misquotes (read: false statements).

The Conduit

Call of Duty 2

In no way does The Conduit boast 360 quality visuals. Only certain games look worse. Like I said before, I hope I'm wrong about everything, because Medal of Honor Heroes 2 was fun while it lasted, but it lacked polish. This looks like the definitive FPS game I was hoping for on Wii, so I'll remain optimistic. I've even heard they won't release until Q1 because they want to implement a headset of some sort (Link). The devs also said that single player is fully done, all they are doing now is bugs and polishing. They have moved onto multiplayer now, and have 16 players up and running.

So far, it seems like this will quench my thirst for a pixel perfect FPS.
