The Clash of Honor 2.01 (Updated)

Lets see where to begin.

This is the current state of my demo I've been working on and off for quite some time. Before you start ripping this to pieces I would like for everyone to focus on the following. (By all means this does not mean only rip apart these sections, but these are the sections that are most important to me. If you feel strong enough about something that sucks, let it out) I know my mapping isn't that great.

Playability (do things work?)
Story - Good/Bad - Why?
Fun - Yes/No - Why?
Map errors - Places that shouldn't be walked on, bushes on top of trees, etc..(Not the maps themself).
What did you like about it?
What did you not like?
Spelling and grammar.

It has been a distressing time for the Kingdom of Alus Baron.  A group of thieves has amassed a large amount of power in a short amount of time.  Both sides have mobilized their armies for an upcoming war.  Dark times follow for the world as the four elemental guardians have gone into hiding.  Without the protection of the guardians, the world will plummet into chaos and disorder.

Characters:

Osmo:
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/9763/o2li6.png[/img]
Age: 26
Class: Fighter/Knight
Bio: Just a simple man that lives in the forest.  He spent some time as a soldier while in his teens.  Osmo is quick to anger and even quicker to draw his sword.  He doesn't like to be interrupted about his daily business.  He just wants to be left alone.  Osmo has no cares of the on goings in other places.   As long as there is food in his stomach, a roof over his head, and a sharp sword by his side, then he is content.
Strengths:  Very strong offense, defense, and special skills.
Weaknesses:  Very slow, expect him to always go last in combat.  Special skills points are low.

Ron:
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/7520/ronkc4.png[/img]
Age: 58
Class:  Elemental Mage / Wizard
Bio: Instructed under his great Master Baiter, Ron learned to control the elements.  As a student he mastered the elements at a very young age, thus making him one of the most powerful beings to control the elements, even strong enough to rival the Guardians.  He is wise beyond his years, but his age is catching up with him, retirement is always a sunset away.
Strengths:  Very strong offense spells.
Weaknesses:  Low physical attacks and defense.

Ty
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/7797/tyes9.png[/img]
Age: 18
Class: Lancer /Dragoon
Bio: The best way to describe Ty is green.  Not because of green armor, or he likes plants, but because he is not very experienced.  (Or so he seems)  He is quick to lend a hand to anyone in need often disregarding his own safety in the process.  He has a kind and gentle spirit that just wants a chance to prove his self.
Strengths:  Average physical attacks and defense.  Ty is also very fast and has a large amount of special skill points.
Weaknesses: Weaker special skills.

Nicole
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/3311/nicce6.png[/img]
Age: 22
Class: Cleric / Priest
Bio: Nicole has a heart of gold and the hair to match.  She is known in the lands as a healer in both mind and body.  She lives in the town of Baakfort just on the east side of the dark forest very close to where Ron lives.
Strengths: Good physical defense,  fast and uses healing magic.
Weaknesses: Lower than average physical attacks.

Theresa:
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/9308/therat2.png[/img]
Age: 32
Class: Caller / Summoner
Bio: Most of her skill was inborn and learned through genetics.  She lives in an ice land town without a name and has a kinship towards animals.  She is very level headed but always seems to act tougher than she really is.
Strengths: Able to summon creatures rather than spells.
Weaknesses: Must find and defeat each creature in order to summon it.

Pam:
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/7613/pamle0.png[/img]
Age: 42
Class: Barbarian  / Warrior
Bio: A very strong and proud warrior from the town of Evacus.  Looking at her one would not know of her undeniable strength.  She is rather well known in her hometown as well as her friend Ben for being two of the greatest heroes of their time.
Strengths: Very strong physical attacks.
Weaknesses: Very weak physical defense.

Kenny:
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/8426/kenpf0.png[/img]
Age: 18
Class: Mage/Thief  / Wizard/Assassin
Bio: Hailing from the town of KuHma, Kenny is know for being quick with a witty and annoying remark.  Sometimes Kenny doesn’t even realize that what he is saying is rude or offensive to others, he just can’t keep his mouth shut.
Strengths: Kenny’s magic is based around lowering the stats and abilities of his enmies.
Weaknesses: Weak physical attacks and defense.

Joe:
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/2026/joerf2.png[/img]
Age: ??
Class: Werewolf
Bio: Joe was bitten by another werewolf so long ago he cannot remember when it happened.  Joe is a simple man that only wants one thing, to be cured.  He is very gullible and will follow anyone that says they can cure him.  This has gotten Joe into big trouble from those who would take advantage of him.
Strengths:Joe has the ability to change into his three headed alter ego at will.  While changed he has the ability to regenerate.
Weaknesses: Weak physical defense.

Jake:
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/4125/jakeyo0.png[/img]
Age: ??
Class: Vampire
Bio: Most people think of vampires as evil vial creatures, but Jake isn’t all that.  He has that swave swagger that is most associated with vampires.  However Jake is bored and looking for something to do, don’t worry he won’t go on a blood sucking rampage.
Strengths:  He has the ability to regenerate, and has average physical attacks.
Weaknesses: Very weak physical defense.

Colin:
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/794/colpa0.png[/img]
Age: 44
Class:   Hunter / Ranger
Bio:   A rather strange main from the town of Tallion.  He talks with a strange accent and is always saying some of the goofiest things that would come out of ones mouth
Strengths:  Very agile, and his fast with his bow and arrows.
Weaknesses: Weak physical defense and weak special skills.

Ben:
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/3300/benya2.png[/img]
Age: 30
Class:   Gunner / Marksman
Bio: One of the most arrogant, self centered, and egotistical person you will ever meet.  Ben is fast with his guns, but even faster to tell you how good he is.  He hails from the town of Evacus where he and his friend Pam are very well known.
Strengths:  Very agile, and accurate
Weaknesses: Weak special skills.

Two other characters, Teki and Taddy are animals, and do not talk.

hi im stuck at the kaytar mountains, to save the guardian there, i did Osmo's side 1st, and cant get though to the door in Ty's side. am i supposed to do something??

Hey, hey!

So I thought I'd give you're game a test as the topic seemed nice and interesting. So these are the things I thought (I'll put them in the format you wanted, in you're post).

1. Playability
The game was playable, yes however there were some things that were brought to my attention for the wrong reasons. Some of these were; Very slow text (I'm aware you can skip some of it but a lot of it dragged on), the encounters on the map outside his house these were far too frequent and although you can skip them its annoying running into mobs on a map that I assumed wasn't hostile. Also not sure if you changed the default walk speed but to me it seemed that I had to use the sprint button to walk normal speed and normal speed was a lot slower.

2. Story
The story wasn't something I got to experience much of aside from the intro and releasing the first Guardian though what I did experience I did like. The idea of the Guardians, the king and the group that got strong very fast. Though I feel it could be developed a little more, which you're probably already doing as you said in your post a lot of the dialouge was just to get the ideas down.

3. Fun
The gameplay at the moment seems a little sluggish (could be my shit PC and terrible frame rate) but the battle system seemed like it has a lot of potential I only got to experience fighting a single mob that was a lot lower level than me. I'm sure with a little more work you'll have it working nice.

4. Mapping
The maps were generally good, there were a few errors but overall they seemed nice. I loved the way you made the maze effect on first guardian map. Something you could maybe work on is smaller indoor rooms, you get the idea across that there are rooms but I just feel that smaller rooms give a better feel though sometimes as is the case with the castle in the intro you have to have a big room.

5. Points I liked
I loved the intro scene with the army being ambushed by the bandits then being anally raped by the giant demon (I assume its a giant demon). The humor you placed during the intro with the creator, added a nice personalized touch. There are other points I really enjoyed as well (a lot of them are listed above).

6. Points I disliked
The mini-map, I found myself looking at it rather than admiring the mapping. I feel it is totally unnecessary and space wasting. The monsters on the first map where you have the conversation with the "CREATOR", I felt it wasn't needed to have hostile mobs on that map and they added a nuisance (of course this could have been the idea and I missed the point totally).  The runescape bronze medium helm icon, please get rid of it! There are tonnes of great RMXP icons that you can use that will look 100x better than that. The way a lot of the systems were box standard. Now this isn't a bad thing but I think you showed with the battle system and message system (I loved the message system other than the slow text) that you can do a whole lot better.

7. Spelling & Grammar
I thought there was nothing wrong with it.

So overall I think you've got the base for a very good game. Keep working on it.  :thumb:

P.S: These observations were made with what I could access of the demo as I couldn't get passed any of the rocks.  :dead:

I'm not at home to cross check what you need to do, I can't remember which side is the key side and which one is the cart side.  But if the door is locked, then it must be the key side.  You got to find the correct keys.

I always thought there was not enough dialog.  I'm going to change the encounters outside everywhere.  My latest plan is balancing the skills and monsters.  I've done about 4 of the 13 characters.  I've noticed a lot of lag when I play myself, I think it is mostly to do with the amount of events, and my fog layer.  I'm currently changing some things to make the lag a lot less.

You are right, the idea I'm going for is not apparant at first.  There is a much deeper plot than "Oh crap, bad guys got strong, lets stop them."

Moster balance is going to take a while, I just need people to whip through things to see if things work.

I think you read my mind, I was thinking the other day that making smaller maps might help them look a lot better.

Heehee, Oosk (the demon/goblins name) is BA.  You see him at least two more times.

No problem with the helmet.  I have a lot of other icons, I just liked that one.  The monsters on that first map will be encountered less.

Thanks, I appreciate it.

yeah i did, and there are keys in that one???
and there is no way to get to that door because there isnt any room to get to the door in the right cave

I'll look into this, you might be just missing the chest with the key.  As silly as it sounds, it can be easy to do.

BTW thanks for your help.  If somone is having this much trouble finding the keys, then I will make them easier to find.  Play testing the game for myself is pointless cause I know where things are at.  So once again, thanks.  (Not sarcasim)

I figured it out.

There is a room where you need to kill three water snakes.  The 3rd gives you the emerald key which opens a door.  That should get you started.  No one has gotten past the caves yet,  Mostly due to my errors and people getting bored.

Not all the doors are locked.  I was looking into it last night.  There is a room with four doors at the top of the map.  The 3rd door from the left, or second from the right, is not locked.  In there you can find the cave key.  The cave key opens the door a few rooms back where you can go in kill three snakes and get the emerald key.  I changed some things last night to make this a little easier.  Unfortuantly I'm not going to upload the newest version until I complete some more things.  I'm hitting the maps mostly.  But you still should be able to find those keys, it is just the matter of finding them.  Once you get passed the rope section you can't go back.

Things that need to be done on the rope side:  Find Teki, Find Pam, have pam break the rocks in the path, find three strands of rope.  Find the room with the cart (lory).  Get in the cart then attach each part of the rope to the hooks.  You attach them by walking into the hooks.  Once everyone is across the lake continue on with the room with the goblins.  You need to find the poison and the monster skins, then walk to the only path that can.  Once you are there the characters will plot to poison the water to kill the goblins.  They will disguise themselfs as goblins to sneak over to the water to plant the poison.  That will end that cave and start the next.  You can also just outright kill the goblins.

The other cave is just find the correct key with the correct door, there is some back tracking.  If needed I can post a screen shot of the areas with each keys.  :)

I really appreciate your input Icegirl.  Thank you.

HUGE update soon.  I've decided to add some more scripts to the game.  I'm going back on my plan of doing most the game by myself due to time issues.  I'm going to be implimenting a lot of the scripts done by Moghunter.

I'm also redoing a lot of those early maps.  Big update happening soon.

there are a few bugs i noticed, when u enter that log area, like the path to dark forest it gets stuck, it doesnt mvoe, and the same thing happens in alrus castle, where rod uses his magic to the east, it wont move there either

Do you mean that the characters just are not able to move?
Could you take a screen shot and post it if possible.  I know where you are talking about near the castle, but not sure where near the forest.

In the mean time I will look into it.  I think I know what could be the problem.  In fact I am 90% sure I do.

Thanks again.  When this game ever gets finished, I'll add you to the credits.  :)
