]The Adventures of Bitboy is basically a side scrolling platformer made in Game Maker 8. The controls are relatively simple, consisting of four actions; move left, move right, jump, and use power-up.
Well, I really haven't decided what should go here yet. The game is definitely not story based in any way, shape, or form. I might add some snazzy background information, but other than that, it really isn't super important.
Gameplay is the meat of this game, much like all platformers are. Again, the controls are relatively simple with a few gimmicks here and there, but for the most part it will require platforming skills.
Lives
There are no lives in the regular modes of stages. However, how many times you die will be counted. The goal here is to beat the stage without dying a lot. If you die, you will be teleported to the nearest checkpoint.
Graphics
There is a planned total of 8 worlds total, each one representing a different theme and color. The graphics are by no means extraordinary graphics, therefore please do not be expecting so.
Music
The score is going to consist of chiptune music to match the overall theme of the game. I of course, did not make any of these as I am as talented as a fig newton when it comes to music. However, I really enjoy the tunes.
HUB
Each of the eight lands has a HUB. The HUB is a small level that consists of door which you may enter in order to get to the playable stage. It is more of a tiny playground more than anything really. If you die on the HUB, you are teleported back to an initial starting point.
Rainbow Coin
Each stage has three rainbow coins hidden on the stage. It is your job to of course collect them. The whole idea behind this is to actually make the hidden rainbow coins worth something unlike other previous commercial games. Therefore, for every coin you get on each stage, you unlock a new mode for that stage. The modes consist of:
Life Challenge
In this mode, you have exactly one life and you must beat the stage without dying. Its the exact same stage, just with one life.
Time Challenge
In this mode, you will have a certain amount of time to beat the stage. You will also have one life to do so. However, most enemies will not be present in this mode, making it gimmickless.
Difficulty Challenge
In this mode, the difficulty of the stage will be considerably increased. More enemies and challenges will be present.
Of course, there will be more to Rainbow Coins such as unlockable stages and maybe some added features which I might throw in.
Power-ups
The game does feature some simple yet effective power-ups that will help you through the journey. However, these power-ups cannot be transferred from stage to stage. Power-ups appear in coin form.
Double Jump Coin
Allows bit boy to double jump.
Shield Coin
While they may not be as useful for the regular mode of the stage, in modes such as Life Challenge, these will prove to be effective.
Time Coin
These are found in Time Challenge and will add a few seconds to your time meter.
Blue Forest
The keyhole is the door to a stage you have not beaten. This is also the HUB for the forest, so ignore the rainbow coin.
Red Cave
My Notes
March 22nd, 2010: While the game is still being created, it is farther than it looks. A lot of the programming is done, with just a few minor things here and there. Now of course, there is still of shitload to do. The AI needs to be created along with actually making all the lands and creating tilesets. For the most part, everything graphical is done with Blue Forest, leaving me with completing the enemies. Once done, I'll release a demo.
I do not however, set deadlines for myself or anything like that. This is mainly for me to learn how to code a little and learn Game Maker itself, so I may work in it and understand it better. I am still a beginner in it however, so please bear with me. And by no means do I expect the finished project to be perfect. o;
Demos
http://www.filedropper.com/platformer2 - Just a small tech demo. There are some weird bugs that still need that need to b worked out. Also, its kinda big fora demo, not everything is organized. If you are interested, try it, if not dont. Its just some basic enemies and some overall basic platforming. It has rainbow coins, three of them. There are no check points, so if you die, then you start at the beginning. Its not super long or anything, a minute to beat. There is no ending, so once you get to the long plain-jane platform, its over.
