Text Parser

Hello,

Before I invest money and time I'd like to know if anyone knows whether or not you can use Ruby to add a text parser to RMXP.

Has anyone tried this? With what results?

And yes, it's necessary for what I have in mind.

Thanks for your attention,

Sorry Slipknot,

I wasn't at all clear. But I can't quite answer your question because I haven't actually used RMXP (because of the cost) and I haven't actually played it either. I just assumed it was similar to RM2K.

The parser I'm thinking of is ZORK...well, the guts of it would be very different from ZORK-like parsers but it would look like it and at first glance behave like it.

I don't have anything against multiple-choice and intend to use that option. It's just that I need more than that. I have two ideas--one technical and the other conceptual--and they both require a more open-ended interface with the player.

So why don't I just go all text parser? Because I really do like the involvement that good art--visual and musical--brings to a story.

I wish I could say more, but, you know...paranoia, poverty....the usual witches brew.

Hope that helps.

One word : Regexp. It's included in ruby, so an efficient text parser is possible, as long as you know how to code it.

And you would need an interface to enter the text, but this has already been done.
