At the risk of exposing my complete noobishness.... How can I make the text appear above the player's position?

You'll need a UMS (Universal Message System), You can use the Search function at the top of the page, or just look in the Submitted RGSS Scripts section.

I reccomend you try to find ccoa's UMS, or the UCoders UMS, their both very good systems, although I prefer the UCoders one, but it's all up to your own preferences.

Thank you very much, if I may one more question. Have any of you had problems when using the "enter hero's name" with the alphabet chars not showing up?

Yes actually I have, but it was because I'd accidentally deleted some letters from the script, haha.
