Test isn't working right. Help. Pretty Please?

OK so I was searching around one day and saw this map pack.  I downloaded it to the correct file and it was called the "RMRevolution Map Pack."

So then one day I open a project and hit test.  Doesn't work.  And you know when you hit test and the window pops up?  Well in the top part of the TEST WINDOW, it says your game title.  Well mine doesn't and it says RMRevolution MAP PACK.  I don't know why.  Then a second after the window pops up it closes.  I've tried over and over, even opening new projects and trying.  Please help me

I'm sorry I'm really new so I don't really know this stuff.

Please I would really like some help.

You would have had to extract it (twice), it's a zip file containing a compressed game project.

The zip file should create a folder called "RMXP Map Pack"
The game install should create a folder called "RMRevolution Map Pack"

Can you do a search in Windows Explorer for either of these folders?

Be Well

Yes yes yes!  Thank you so much please respond.  What do I do after I found the file in search?  Delete it?

(You are so smart for telling me about the search, would've never thought of it.  I LOVE you)

I kinda deleted them in the bit of time. But I restored and it said in my C:\ Drive in Documents and Settings.

One file is different.  It says RMREVOLUTION MAP PACK.EXE  and is found in C:\Windows\Prefetch

?  No Idea what that means

As long as they weren't in C:\Program Files\Enterbrain\RPGXP\System (the program) or
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Enterbrain\RGSS\Standard (the RTP)
you should be ok.

Don't worry about the 'prefetch' thing. It just helps those programs load faster.

Did you start building your game on top of the Map Pack?
Look at Game -> Change Title.  What does it say?

I'm sorry but I have like no idea what I'm doing.  I deleted every file containing anything whatsoever to do with RMRevolution Map Pack and it is still screwed up.  I also changed the title project name and it didn't do anything.

Sorry you don't have to bother me with this anymore.  I just can't figure it out...

Don't give up so easy...

Create a brand new project. Name it 'Test'  (in the "Folder Name" field)
All 3 fields (Game Title & Location too) should have changed.
Look at the 'Location' Field.

Now, here's what I do.  I put all of my projects in
C:\Documents and Settings\briggst\My Documents\RMXP....
That way they're all in one place.

So, your location should look like.
C:\Documents and Settings\briggst\My Documents\RMXP\Test
(except that the 'briggst' should be your login name, not mine.)

Hit 'OK'

Now, hit Test Play (Playtest)...

You should see Aluxes walking around on a plain grass screen, and the name of your
game in the Title bar should be  "Test - RPG Maker XP"

If you don't, then let me know & we'll fix it.

You will not believe this...

I found it in C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Desktop\ RPG Maker XP\

Compaq_Owner is my little screen name

So before I open it, I go to Rpg Maker again and test my "Test" game.  Doesn't work, like before, it says RMRevolution Map Pack.

Then I go back to the search program and find my "Test" folder.
I open the
              Game
RGSS Player       -          folder, and gues what...
IT WORKS!

I think they might be 2 different test program thingys.  (Like I said, I'm a newbie, I dunno.)

But thanks.  The test button in the RPG Maker Game doesn't work.

BUT the RGSS Player does... Odd?

Are you sure?  I promise I downloaded a trial version awhile ago, then paid $60 (I think on download.com) to get the full version.  I don't know where I got the trial.  But I really didn't get the illegal code or anything.  Please don't tell anyone (I PROMISED I payed) because this is the best site like ever and I don't want to get banned or anything.

Ok, I think I got it.  When you installed the RMRevolution Map Pack, you must have installed it over RMXP or the RTP.

If you created a new project, and it's titled "RMRevolution Map Pack", it has to be copying it from the install directory.

I think the only thing you can do is uninstall RMXP, and reinstall it.

Be Well

I might be able to do that but will it lemme enter my code in twice?

Ah well... I can still test my game...kinda

Thank you so much.  I love you...  Without you I couldn't test like any games.

Thank you I don't know if I'll try that because if I uninstall and reinstall and something goes wrong, I'm not paying another $60.

I did install it on my computer, and my brother's so I don't know... I might just do that.

I don't think it's the RTP.

I tried to duplicate the problem, and couldn't do it.
Create a new game, and have the title show up as anything other than what you enter in the "Create New Game" dialog.
I backed up my RTP & RMXP folders in "..Program Files", and copied the Map Pack game over the RTP & RMXP program.
If I create a new game, it starts out with all of the data in C:\Program Files\Enterbrain\RPGXP\System & the 'data' folder in that folder.
Meaning, I get all of the Map Pack maps, and data files. But the Title is still whatever I entered in the "New Game" dialog.

If you don't want to re-install RMXP using the installer from download.com, the only other option is to copy the program from
your brother's computer, assuming his is working ok, and replace the program on your computer.

The folder you want to copy is C:\Program Files\Enterbrain\RPGXP

Good Luck
