Team Fortress 2 is now free to play...

So if you don't know, TF2 was recently made free to play! I am very happy for those who always have wanted to play the game but couldn't purchase it for some reason. To play, all you need to do is install Steam and download the game!

Now why I made this topic is because I want to hear some thoughts from the people who actually bought the game. Do you feel ripped off? Should Valve have done this? For us who have bought the game; our accounts are considered premium accounts. Here is a comparison between the free and premium accounts I stole from teamfortress.com

Meh I don't really mind, I paid a discount price for it on the steam sales like a year ago, it was something like £5, and I've put more than my money's worth into it, it's a really cool game and I think it's great that tons more people can play it now, maybe it'll become more active, since it sort of started dying out at one point...

Wow this is pretty cool, I might download it when I finnaly get a decent internet connection, since the download would take me about 11 hours now uch:

Meh, I bought the game and don't really care that it's free because I think the game is garbage anyway. Only reason I got it was because it's part of orange box.

In general it doesn't really bother me when stuff becomes free, although I might be a little annoyed if it was something I bought like the day before it was free.

I love Team Fortress 2 but making it free is a rip off.

Lately they've added a store and that's the catch. The people that get the game free, the only way to get super cool items is to either buy them or get a premium account. Most people aren't going to give you fancy items for free and I figure a lot of the game is going to be clogged with beggars now, which will get annoying to hear people whine about stuff. So unless you got a friend it's going to be pretty basic. It's fun getting hats and stuff... and well the rare items are so rare, I don't care about them. Besides to get the rare stuff more often than not you have to BUY a key to a crate and open it hoping you'll get that rare item which is like a 3% chance of it or something pathetic like that.

You think you're getting anything for free? Pfffffffffft if they could sell the game for $5 then making it free is going to have people tempted to buy a hat or two for $5 making them get the money anyways. And if you buy you're more likely to buy again..... as well as TF3 must be coming within a year or two and this is their last grab for money off of this cash cow.... after all they ran out of the ability to make anymore major updates since they did all the classes. The incentive to buy is done except for that.

I paid for the Orange Box at full price xD I do feel annoyed. But yeah, it's cool that more people can play it. But looking at RavenTDA's post he/she raised some pretty good points. And no, I've never seen it dying out :x

I agree with everything you say! And also the addition of hackers and the likes who could not risk to do it before :/ And yeah I think that they're just trying to milk as much cash before moving on :/ Thanks for the great reply!
