The Great B-Ball Purge of 2041, a day so painful to some that it is referred to only as the "B-Ballnacht". Thousands upon thousands of the world's greatest ballers were massacred in a swath of violence and sports bigotry as the game was outlawed worldwide. The reason: the Chaos Dunk, a jam so powerful its mere existence threatens the balance of chaos and order. Among the few ballers and fans that survived the basketball genocide was Charles Barkley, the man capable of performing the "Verboten Jam"...

Flash forward 12 years to the post-cyberpocalyptic ruins of Neo New York, 2053. A Chaos Dunk rocks the island of Manhattan, killing 15 million. When the finger is put on the aging Charles Barkley, he must evade the capture of the B-Ball Removal Department, led by former friend and baller Michael Jordan, and disappear into the dangerous underground of the post-cyberpocalypse to clear his name and find out the mysterious truth behind the Chaos Dunk. Joined by allies along the way, including his son Hoopz, Barkley must face the dangers of a life he thought he gave up a long time ago and discover the secrets behind the terrorist organization B.L.O.O.D.M.O.S.E.S.

Changes:
- Fixed a bunch of game glitches
- Joypad no longer supported (Some people had problems, anyone with the 6969696 glitch this was the game trying to emulate a non-existant joypad). Use something like joy2key if you want this
- Music error fixed

How to use:
Replace the old Barkley EXE with the new Barkley EXE and ensure the dll is in the same folder as the EXE. You still need the Barkley resources, so use the topic download link if you don't have them.

Notes:
Anyone who had problems running the game should download this. The game may have one or two instances in the game where it may not play music correctly. Report if you think there is something wrong with the music playback. This is technically beta but I think it works right.

For monitors that don't support 320x240 and you downloaded the earlier version, delete your config.txt and controls.txt if it exists.

It was made in Game Maker, but I give this the Administrator Stamp of Approval because it's so good that people can learn a lot from it. It's a well-made game that does a good job of telling a narrative that is remarkably solid and well-written despite (or because of) the ridiculousness of the premise.

Plus it's an actual completed game, so it would be more efficient that it be kept in the Completed Games forum, since this is the place where people go when looking for fun games to play.

I haven't played all of this, but I've gotten through enough to know that it's hilarious...and surprisingly compelling given the ludicrous premise. I'd definitely recommend it.

-has good, not very bland (a staple in the genre it is emulating) characters
-has an innovative battle system (seriously.)
-has cool fun minigames
-because it is incredibly well made

if you've like played it but don't see how this game deserves the stuff it got, then I don't know what to tell you except to realize that this game is a parody of the Japanese RPG genre, and it is bloody great for what it is. 8)

Yar, I played it and understood the parody. But...

- Not being a fantasy game isn't a pro for me. I like all good games. In a way, it IS a fantasy game. We don't have basketball monsters running around here, after all.
- I don't like the graphics clashing, or the style for that matter. It's kind of "old school", yet without BEING old school because of non-old school graphics here and there.
- The battle system is kind of slow and becomes boring after a while for me.
- I don't like basketball, which is the game's theme, so... It's not like I hate basketball or something, though. I just don't particularly like it.
- The minigames are kind of fun, I guess. It's more like "omg that must have been difficult to make!" than "wow this is fun I want to do this 20 more times!".
- It's not my style of humor, I guess. It didn't make me laugh or smile. But I did try to appreciate the attempt, and that it amused other people who played it.
- I don't like the creator's overall "we're the best" attitude which adds to the staple of little things that I don't like.

..And that adds to my overall opinion that this game is overrated and hyped to the point that it's just ridiculous. But to each his own, right?

Yes, this game was hyped, but not all hype is bad. This is like one of the best indie games to come out in the past 2 years imo.

I still dont see how people dont like it, either:
a)they havent played it and are making their own opinion
b)they are mad cause Cloud Strife and Squall arent in it.

But overall, great job Tales of Games...this makes me feel obligated to play anything you guys put out now.

pro tips:
do something BAD with the whole romance thing and you get the best Zauber in the game

michael jordan isn't who he seems to be...

if you hit the action button 55 times during any zauber usage, you will perform a hidden attack
