Student Arrested for "Suspected Terrorist Activity"

Check this link first...

Well, after the various rampages in Germany, some people said that the rampagers were recreating their schools, as well, being an indicator for their plans... I've never heard about someone getting arrested for it, and either way, that's one of the most ridiculous forms of law enforcement I'Ve ever heard... for real now, every FPS game mapper (including myself) mapped his school once or a least got the idea. Why? Simply explained: It's an environment you're used to, as you're hanging out there every day, and it's also big enough for actually working as a multiplayer map (contrary to also-well-known places like your house, or something similar), and your friends will appreciate it more than a random map for the reason that they pretty much know the map from the start.
Well, discuss... I can't wait to hear 'Beware of BlueScope!' -.-

Oh my god...
Is it just me or is American Law Enforcement just completely awful?

"ZOMGIES HES PLAYING DOOM! ARREST HIIMM!!!!"

I can't honestly believe it, it is completely ridiculous. I bet Jack Thompson would have been on the scene right away and looking at his game collection.

"He mapped the school on The Sims 2, he was planning to use it to get to know the school better and use it for training. I also saw Half-Life 2. Using crowbars, and high-tech weaponry against Combine aliens must be training for a school shooting or something!"

Really, thats pretty much what the guy is like. It's really really sad that the world is turning out like this. Bastards.

Yes, it is sad, but to give a perspective from a different point of view, what about all the terrible things that have happened that could have possibly been prevented if some kind of action was taken early on? Take the most recent Virginia Tech shooting, for example. If people would have taken his short stories seriously, could they have prevented that tragedy? I think that a lot of people are on edge and they'd rather be safe than sorry. There's no harm in checking things out. However, perhaps it was a little extreme to arrest and expel the kid. Nothing is black and white and there's always two sides to every story.

His short stories weren't actually all that shocking. While he was clearly disturbed, there was nothing he did which could have suggested he was going to go on a killing spree. Lots of people are wierd and/or horrible. Very, very few of them become murderers.

All I can think of is that the police were under pressure to do something - a tip comes in - they might as well act on it. Very unlucky for the boy who got picked out.

*sigh* Texans are so fucking stupid [in general].... (why else do you think Bush hails from there)

I mean come on people, everyone with mapping abilities has mapped or attempted to map out their school for a videogame, it isn't like this kid's gonna go loco on some people with a shotgun, IT'S JUST A FUCKING MAP!!

I mean, I'm sure a majority of you have had the thought of playing CS:S in your own school as a map, and I'm sure some of you have attempted it, and if they're gonna arrest one kid for having ability, then you might as well arrest me too.

I... have done the same thing. Tried to map a part of my school in HL2. And I have a sword hanging up in my bedroom.

Apparently I'm going to kill everyone at my school. With a bastard sword. That I can't possibly conceal.

Someone call the police. -.-

So you're allowed to own and buy a gun, but you aren't allowed to make a map based on a place, for in a game? Man American law confuses me.

it's not the law, it's those god damn texans, not to mention there could be racial prejudice as the kid was asian, and with the amount of blades and the air rifle under my bed, i guess that puts me on par with osama bin laden, doesn't it?

Well not really, 'cause it could be a hostage rescue map where you have to, dare i say it, save the president. And besides it's the Texan's fault, and plus they have no real evidence so what that kid has had done against him is indeed unlawful.

Actually, thanks to the Homeland Security Act, it's completely lawful ':|

I'm a go destroy my school with a hammer now, be back in a few....

Seriously, what the hell? What struck me were the first few lines concerning his ethnic origin. I bet that if he were white, the 'authorities' would have looked over it like it was nothing.

Land of life, liberty, and freedom. some restrictions apply

hmm... Maybe I should take hat huge rail roadk steak driving mallet outa my room ad burn it...not to mention all the wepoans I cary with me on a daily basis...This is f*king retarded. Im gona fly to texas and run around with my mallet now and see if anytihng hapens.

madmax, you contradict yourself. You say this...

And besides it's the Texan's fault

Yet you also call THEM prejudiced. It's not the fault of all the people of Texas. It's the fault of a few select people, so you shouldn't hold the entire state accountable.

What the hell would he do with a hammer anyway? Plans of anything are common place for designers. They didn't have enough evidence to be able to make an arrest like that. People are getting too paranoid.

Like I said, thanks to Bush and the Homeland Security Act, they don't need evidence to arrest. I believe, under the Act, that the government can incarcerate (hold in prison) anyone suspected of terrorist activity for up to 3 years without officially charging them for a crime. Basically, the Act allows the government to bypass the Constitution in every way by simply mentioning the word "terrorist".':|
