GAIA

Here you go:

This was posted on a site that was, at the time, newly opened and highly secured: GAIA.net. It was a site for newly recruited or possible members of the internet safety militia GAIA. These members were taught as if they had no knowledge of the current world after the year 2300 in order for them to construct their own views of the situation that was at hand. The post is from June 22, 2325:

"A world of mass machinery.

Everyone said it would happen, and it did. There are some against it. But others, like myself, strive to call it home. It is home after all, right?

It's not like it used to be, the world and all. Looking at the slow-as-hell progress we were making five years ago, I couldn't have guessed we would be here already. Damn. Evolution apparently speeds up as it progresses, because we're on a fast track to being the same other-worldly creatures I called "aliens" that I assumed were hostile in the old days, being as advanced and technology-driven as we are now.

Space. Honestly we aren't really any further into the depths of space than we were then, so calling us "aliens" really doesn't do it justice. No, we aren't going into space. We sure as hell could, but we're not.

More like cyberspace.

The "internet," "intraweb," "AOL," call it what you want, it's a damn technological hell that we're slowly drawing ourselves into. I'm all for checking my email (that is.. before that became open for attack too..), but we're at a different stage than that. This is bigger. Much bigger. Chernobyl was a damn merry-go-round compared to the shit we're about to be in. I'm an idiot just for keeping this site up to teach you what I can. If we don't stop this technological growth soon..

Metaforms. That's what the IICCU's calling them. I call them demons. Something that crawls into your home via a simple CAT-5 cable (ya, the same cheap ass CAT-5 cable that connects your cozy little world to those folks halfway across the globe that you chat with in a forum concerned with Pyrex kitchenware) doesn't exactly excite me, which is what the word "metaforms" would do--excite me (considering it sounds like some new scientific advancement)--if I didn't already know what it was.

IICCU. The International Internet Crime Control Unit, or "E-Cu" for short, that's what we call 'em.

It's bullshit. They're just the dicks that cover up the truth of cybernetic creatures with pretty, fancy-sounding words like "Metaforms," when the creatures are really just everyday criminals, except they're made up of numbers instead of our all-too-familiar emotions, dreams, and fears. I have my own, personal vendetta with them, but we won't get into that.

The only thing we have left: GAIA. The Gathering Against Internet Attackers. Everyone has a final means of defense, this is ours.

See, we look at it like this. We were here first. Well, despite your views on the origin of this planet, it's our earth, and we plan on keeping it that way. If you can't tell, GAIA was happily taken from the name of mother nature herself.

Look, if we don't do something--as cliché as this sounds--no one will. The general public buys into E-Cu's bull all day, everyday.

But why's it a big deal?

Good question. It's a huge deal.

Think about a virus on a computer. It crashes, great. Restart the computer. If it happens again, retry.

This is a different ball game, kids. Imagine if that virus could reform into--not strings of numbers--but a live being, and it could do it through YOUR crappy home crashputer. I dont mean transform into a Teletubby either. We're talking a living, breathing, functioning, seen-in-the-movies creature. The general public doesn't know about these right now, because E-Cu has done a damn good (albeit impressive) job of covering it up.

One gets out, kills a few folks, E-Cu's right there to cover it up and get rid of the bastard.

But what happens when more than just one, two, or a few of these things get out?

It's as scary as it sounds and that, kids, is why we're here. If this doesn't work.. I give us five more years.

...Welcome to Hell.”

2327...

It's been two years. GAIA is still active but has become an even more underground project because the site's security was breached by an undisclosed member of the IICCU. The site was shut down and investigations into GAIA were commenced. Their name has been in the public eye for quite some time, but the headquarters has never been found and the public is split as to whether the organization is a myth or not. In just the past two years, there have been extremely fast technological advances, people rarely need to leave their homes. The above poster, Araon Thragel, was accurate in his prediction about where the world was headed.

All except for one thing..

It's already happening.

SETTING: Somewhat modernistic world with obvious futuristic aspects. Slightly more chaotic (though this chaos may be unknown to the general public) and technologically advanced than we know it, but geographically similar to our world nonetheless. The year is 2327. GAIA's main base is currently undisclosed, but Steven Cherub (look below all of this) might lead the characters to it soon...

WEAPONS: Any modern weapon. Any mechanized/machined body parts such as artificial limbs with auxiliary weapons built-in/built-on/attached. Also, any kind of electrically charged staffs, gloves, leg weapons, etc. The player learns that GAIA found a way to fuse elemental properties of the earth they're protecting directly into weapons.

ARMOR: Plates (i.e. plated armors), suits, clothes, shields, mechanized/machined body parts (artificial limbs) made for defense (i.e. arm that is/has a shield), and whatever else (no robes please, we aren't in Camelot or mageville).

Here is where the main character, Araon, that posted that on GAIA.net, is explained..

MAIN CHARACTER

NAME: Araon Thragel

ORIGIN: Boston, Massachussetts

BIRTHDATE: March 20, 2298

APPEARANCE: He is caucasian with a very slight tan. Standing at 5' 9”, he seems everything but intimidating, but he's a force to be reckoned with. He has medium length brown hair and is tattooed across his body; the tattoos are not army-type, because he isn't the army-type, think rogue or rebel. He is a skeptic of most things, with the personality of a bull—strong, steadfast, and loves to play rough.

Crappy custom avatar, gives you a clue about his looks though:

WEAPONS: Gloves, he's obviously melee fighter.

BACKGROUND:
Araon was born in Boston, Massachussetts to Clay and Myra Thragel. His father died of throat cancer when Araon was 15. After this he went through some trying times as he started to rebel in school and take out his anger on fellow classmates.
After being kicked out of many local schools, his mother homeschooled him until his graduation, hoping to rid him of his questionable ways and set him back on the path on which his father would have wanted him to be.
After he graduated he decided not to go to college, but to get a job. He lived with his mother for two more years. When he was twenty, his house was broken into and his mother was robbed and murdered while he was at his day job. Upon arriving home and finding his mother, he vowed revenge. The local news aired the incident as a robbery and homicide. He spent the next three years hunting down his mother's killers only to find out the killers were two Metaforms that had, unluckily for him, found a breach in his computer and made their way out.
After finding out this information, he did some research and came to find out (by paying the right people and doing some questionable things for some answers) that the IICCU was the company that cleaned up the mess and reported it to the news as a “homocide” by “robbers.” He did some more research in the same manner as before and learned of GAIA. He was a member a year later.
In 2324, two years after joining GAIA, he was promoted to New Member Trainer and was also ordered to use GAIA.net as a tool to help him teach new or possible recruits. The site was supposed to be secure. It wasn't, and, a year later, directly after the incident involving IICCU shutting it down, he moved back to Boston, taking up his new life as a not-so-normal neighborhood resident.

And the game begins with Araon receiving this message from Steven Cherub:

Greetings.

If you are reading this then you know the truth in the rumors of GAIA's existence. We have been driven underground, but are growing in numbers. Despite our members locations scattered across the globe, we know the existence of this network is both a blessing and a curse. Without it we would not face the looming threat of the metaforms, yet with it we are able to organize our efforts across great distance.

However your receive this, and you choose to commit to our efforts, make all effort to make your way to what has become of Seattle, WA. This will be the relay point for efforts for the time being. Alas, it is not possible to reveal the location of our headquarters at this time. For this reason, I will mostly be communicating with you in the form of messages.

As our researchers at the Department for the Development of Digital Defense (4D) make advances in our technology to fight against the metaforms, I will relay this information to you.

Good luck,
SC

Araon:

"Ah, shit..

Seattle? I hate Seattle."

Taking his gloves and a freshly made sandwich, Araon heads back into his living room to commence his daily punching bag workout, hoping for a message bearing some good news, instead of news that he has to travel an impractical, long distance to a city he hates to have a meeting with other members he has never met of the underground group he is associated with about the headquarters he has never seen. It was a good day in the life.

This is open and can be adjusted if you are interested, just speak to me.

Please do not steal my ideas, but join if you want, I need help!! I can continue to write more for the storyline, just need some help with other aspects! Thanks!!

Trevor

It seems techology based stories are getting popular in the RPG maker community at the moment. I know my RPG is based off over reliance on technology to some degree.

I really like the idea of this and it seems very well thought out. Just an idea, but if the enemy group can use Metaforms, then perhaps the GAIA members could do something similar and use the same technology to combat the monsters with their own personal avatars? This might add a nice summon/stand/persona/monster raising appeal to the game.

Wasn't that the premise of the recent game "Blue Dragon"?

But this sounds like an awesome mix of The Matrix, FF7, and a smattering of TRON. I like it. If you need help with it, PM me man.

That first series of paragraphs was very cool. It would be cool to incorporate that into the beginning as a narrator introduction.
