Starting Weapons

I have the hero with the bronze sword as a starting weapon but its not there. I have a second hero in the party who has his starting gun but for some reason I can't get the other playable hero to start with a sword. Any ideas why?

What do you mean, "it's not there"? When you look in "Equipment" he doesn't have anything equipped?

And XP or VX?

In the hero tab in the database, there's a place to choose the equipment that they start off with.
