Starting Switches on in RMXP

Hey, I use RMXP, but never have used it for quite a while.  I used to know how to do this, but now that I went back to using this I cannot figure out how I did it before.  I went through all my old games trying to figure out how I did this, but cannot seem to find out how.

How do I start a switch on, seems simple but I cannot figure it out.  Like when you start the game the switch is automatically on.  I remember there being an option to quickly do it but I cannot remember where it is.

Make an autorun event in the same room the character starts in.  Have it turn any switches "on" that you need.  Simple enough.

hmmm, ok thanks i guess thats simple enough, i just dont see how i did it so easily before
