Sprite problems

when i get sprite sheets like this:

How do i make them usable? like, how do i make it in a square so i can use it as my character? please help. I'm really confused! :'(

Take a look at the rest of the RMXP character sets.
They're simple 4 frame animations, in 4 directions (down, left, right, up)
If you look at frame 1 & 3 on most of them, they are the same.
On the 'up' & 'down' animations, frame 2 & 4 are the same, except mirrored.
